SIMPLE HAT

Charlotte's daughter Joan (she pronounces it Jo-Ann) came up with this
version of a Caps for Kids pattern which works up quickly. I made one for
myself using some of my first handspun yarn, so can testify that it is
pretty forgiving too. :-) The cast on is a multiple of 4 and you can vary
that to accomodate different head sizes.

Worsted weight yarn and #8 needles

Cast on 88 stitches

Brim: Row 1: K1, P1
       Row 2: Knit

Repeat these 2 rows for 3-4 inches. Add one stitch to the last row.

Body: *K3, P1* to last stitch, end K1. Repeat this row for 9-10 inches. It
does not matter which side you end on.

Top: Row 1: *K1, SSK, P1* across, end K1
       Row 2: *K2, P1* end K1
       Row 3: *K2, P1* end K1
       Row 4: *K2, P1* end K1
       Row 5: *K2 tog, P1* end K1
       Row 6: *P1, K1* end P1
       Row 7: *K1, P1* end K1
       Row 8: *K2 tog* end K1
       Row 9: Purl

Take thread through all stitches, pull up and fasten off.
Sew side seam and add tassel.
