After leaving University, the pair (along with fellow Footlighters Emma Thompson and Ben Elton) worked together on a variety of comedy programs for British television which eventually led to roles in multiple series of "Blackadder", "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" and "Jeeves and Wooster". By the early nineties, Hugh was a well known face on British television and had begun to branch out into more dramatic roles in features such as "Peter's Friends"and the mini-series "All or Nothing at All".
