Men's Chorus/5th Avenue Collaboration Reminds Audiences Why "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend"

Only 5 Performances: May 13 — May 15, 2005
Tickets On Sale: January 10, 2005

SEATTLE — In the first collaboration of its kind, The 5th Avenue Theatre and Seattle Men's Chorus join forces to present the classic Jule Styne/Leo Robin musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in concert. There will be only five performances; tickets ranging in price from $27 - $77 go on sale Monday, January 10.

In this concert staging, the leading actors will be backed by the entire 250-member Seattle Men's Chorus and accompanied by a full orchestra. With minimal but inventive settings, costumes, staging and lights, the emphasis remains on the hilarious story and wonderful music. This musical event provides the rare opportunity to experience this seldom-produced musical in all its glory.

The 5th Avenue Producing Artistic Director, David Armstrong will direct the production and Seattle Men's Chorus Artistic Director Dennis Coleman will be the musical director. The production will feature a cast of outstanding musical theater performers from Seattle, Hollywood and Broadway - including Faith Prince and Lucy Lawless with special appearances by Seattle celebrities John Curley and Pat Cashman.

Best known for her television role as Xena warrior princess, Lucy Lawless is a musical theater star in her native New Zealand and played Rizzo in the Broadway revival of Grease. She will play Dorothy, the role made famous by Jane Russell. Faith Prince won a Tony Award for her performance as Adelaide in the revival of Guys and Dolls, and is familiar to millions from her TV roles on Spin City and Huff. Faith Prince will play Lorelei Lee; the character made famous by Carol Channing on stage, and Marilyn Monroe on film.

Those who have never experienced a concert staging of a musical before are in for a real treat. This presentation style is enjoying a renewed popularity, from the City Center Encores! series in New York to the Reprise! series in Los Angeles. The informal atmosphere of the concert staging brings a sense of intimacy and an element of pure fun to the proceedings.

Tickets to Gentlemen Prefer Blondes go on sale January 10, 2005 and range in price from $27-$77.
