The National Curriculum is an overview used by schools to ensure that teaching standards are consistent. However, schools are free to plan how the National Curriculum fits with their particular strengths and introduce other activities that extend the learning
SATS - Statutory Assessment Tests - aim to track your child's progress in broad Key Stages. Children take these national tests at the end of Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. At the end of Key Stage 4, they will sit national examinations, often GCSEs.
Can you tell me when the SATs exams are?
- 7 year olds, Key Stage 1, Year 2 - tasks are between January and June and tests are in May to fit in with other school work.
- 11 year olds, Key Stage 2, Year 6 - on set days in May each year : (usually
the 2nd and 3rd weeks of May).
2007 - Monday 14 May to Friday 18 May
2008 - Monday 12 May to Friday 16 May
2009 - Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May
- 14 year olds, Key Stage 3, Year 9 - on set
days in May each year : (usually the 1st week of May)
2007 - Tuesday 8 May to Friday 11 May
2008 - Tuesday 6 May to Friday 9 May
2009 - Tuesday 5 May to Friday 8 May
