Battlestar Galactica Season 4

After months of anticipation Battlestar Galactica has finally returned. This past Friday was the second episode of the fourth season. The show returns with all of its twists in turns; some good, some desperately lame. Will this season end with the the Battlestar and the rest of the Colonial Fleet all perishing at the hands of the Cylons.

This season kicks of a theme we’re all familiar with: Starbuck is a melodramatic mental patient. Thus far, Starbuck is less of an ace pilot and more like that dramatic skank you had in your high school Biology class who used to date guys in college and got pregnant from one of the other kids in the drama club and named her baby a regular name but spelled stupidly like Stevin or Byll. After leading the BSG crew to believe she died, Starbuck has now returned claiming she’s been to Earth. As the fleet moves further in the wrong direction it causes her to have fits and headaches all while screaming or saying she’s losing the feeling and she doesn’t know for how much longer she can remember where Earth is.

What’s mildly interesting is that Starbuck has returned with a brand new ship. It is an exact copy of the ship they saw her blow up with, except it’s brand new and looks like it just came out of the factory. She cannot account for the new ship, or for why she thinks she was away for two hours when it was actually two months. The president of course thinks she’s a Cylon, but Adama is unsure, so at the end of the second episode he gives her a ship to head towards where she thinks Earth is.

At the end of the last season it was revealed that four people on Galactica are Cylons. Whether or not they actually are Cylons has yet to be revealed, but viewers should be skeptical. Hey were all brought together by hearing some strange music, but other then that there has been no evidence to prove that they’re not human. The existence of these Cylons amongst the humans has also lead to a bit of a civil war amongst the Cylons. Have believe the other models of Cylon are with the humans, and half do not. But when the Centurions, are altered to have free will they attack one of the factions. There is also another Cylon model believed to be amongst the humans that hasn’t been revelaed yet as well.

And Lee Adama is leaving to pursue a life as a politician? Well, he’s no longer a "cag" or a pilot, or a captain or whatever else he is but who can keep track because it changes every episode. The crew gives him a hero’s send off, as if he won’t be back on the show in an episode. He says goodbye to his wife/ex-wife and says, "you got the house," meaning Galactica, and leading fans to believe that it’s finally over between the two of them and he can once again pursue a relationship with the insane Starbuck.

Oh, and Gius Baltar has joined a cult.

So BSG is back, and it will be nice to see where it goes, but so far it’s been disappointing. Even with only two episodes aired, this season feels much better then the last. They’ll probably find Earth, but who knows for sure. They apparently stepped up the special effects a bit too. Or does it perhaps feel like that because they’re airing it on the HD channel at the same tie for once. Will the find Earth? Will the Cylons kill them? No one knows the answers to these secrets except for the show’s creators. The only certain in this season is that everything is still shaped like a damn octagon.
