The Four Ds: Finding Motivation in Yourself and Others
Archie Griffin
President & CEO, The Ohio State University Alumni Association. We may think of Archie Griffin as"local," but he is a widely recognized expert on motivation. His familiar"4 Ds" theme will have a customized flavor for attendees at the Arnold Active Aging Festival. Archie will again focus on desire, dedication, determination and diversity, but here's how he plans to apply it to adults who want to feel better longer.

Desire: Follow your passion. Do something you enjoy. Have a Game Plan. Make goals specific and realistic.

Dedication: Practice gets results. Re-prioritize and make time. Get some coaching. Obtain advice from a trainer, a gym, online, or from the library.

Determination: Woody Hayes taught me"You're either getting better or getting worse." So track your progress, measure results, and give yourself rewards. Strengthen your determination by recruiting a team. Then tell teammates your goals and ask for their help and support. Be determined to persevere. You can't win them all! Figure out what went wrong and then get up and start again.

Diversity: Change the "play book." Avoid boredom by doing different things. Add new people to your team - a fresh view that is"not like me."

Relieve Joint Pain and Restore Joint Mobility
Scott Sonnon
Ageless Mobility—Pain-Free Wellness for Longevity is an easy-to-follow, low-impact, movement program involving a scientific blend of dynamic mobility and simple yoga that gives you pain-free quality of life, and the ability to move and play without pain. The focus is on prehab rather than rehab.
Joints begin to ache as we get a little older. Those daily pains can be fixed fairly quickly. The best way to oil the rusty"tin man" joints is with synovial fluid, your body's natural lubrication that is created from the food you eat. Connective tissue in adults doesn't get nutrition from blood flow except through movement.
Ten to fifteen minutes daily of mobility exercise will wash your joints with lubrication, smooth off the build-up of joint salts and calcification to abate arthritis and osteoporosis. You can be less creaky, see over your shoulder better when driving, and play more.

FrameWork! - Your 7 Step Program for Healthy Muscles, Bones and Joints
Dr. Nicholas DiNubile
Have muscle, joint or bone pain? Tennis or golfer elbow, achy shoulders, back, knees or heels, hand numbness or carpal tunnel?
Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Nick DiNubile can help! He'll provide tips on how to put your body's frame first by developing exercises that work around and strengthen an individual's weak points.
As a sports medicine specialist, Dr. Nick serves as orthopedic consultant for the Pennsylvania Ballet and the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team. He has been featured in six segments of CNN's Seeking Solutions with Suzanne, and by most networks, and national publications.
A Chinese proverb says:"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the second best time is now." Dr. Nick says: It's never too late to change your fate. Today, trade one unhealthy habit for a healthy one. The human body can take a lot of abuse for years and still rally back.

Latest Advances in Anti-Aging Medicine
Dr Robert M. Goldman MD, PhD, DO, FAASP:
Dr. Bob Goldman, founder and Chairman of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), will present cutting-edge anti-aging medical advances.

A4M has a membership of 11,500 physicians and scientists from 65 countries, and is dedicated to educating physicians, scientists, and the public on anti-aging issues. A4M believes that the disabilities associated with normal aging are caused by physiological dysfunction which in many cases are subject to medical treatment, such that the human life span can be increased, and the quality of one's life improved as one grows chronologically older.

Goldman chairs the International Medical Commission overseeing sports medicine committees in over 176 nations. He has lectured at universities in the US, Australia, Indonesia, Korea and China. He has led development of numerous international medical organizations.

Goldman is a world champion athlete with over 20 world strength records, including 13,500 consecutive situps and 321 consecutive handstand pushups. He has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Exercise is Medicine, but There's no Co-pay
Dr. Steven T. Devor

Ph.D., FACSM: Lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, get your blood sugar under control and pay less money or no money for drugs…sound too good to be true?

In his work with seniors in independent housing, Devor sees changes in those who practice daily exercise. Assuming no significant underlying health issues, seniors just need to ‘ramp up slowly' in the beginning.

You don't have to go to a gym or buy equipment. Be creative; use simple things. Lift soup cans or partially filled milk jugs. Even though it should be structured, exercise should be what you enjoy doing. Do a little every day, for a certain length of time. "I call it ‘buying your health insurance.'" Your body will continue to adapt," he said.

"Don't be the grandparent who only get pleasure from watching the kids play," Devor says. "Play with them. It's more fun and memorable for everyone. We all want to be independent. It's never to late to change."

Crime Proof Yourself and Your Family
Sgt. C.D. Grant

C.D. Grant , a retired police sergeant and former police Olympic Judo champion, served two tours in Korea during the war then lived there to study martial arts. He holds master ranks in Judo and Jujitsu and has studied Karate and Aikido. Upon returning to the USA in 1955, he established the first martial arts school in Ohio and is known as one of the eleven founders of Judo. He served in all divisions of the police department and taught police defensive tactics. A coach for over 55 years, at age 76 he teaches seminars and now for the first time reveals the secret of PENUMBRA: Surviving the Edge of Darkness.

Exercise is Medicine but There's no Co-pay
Lower your blood pressure, your cholesterol, get your blood sugar under control and pay no money for drugs -- sound too good to be true?

Dr. Steven T. Devor, a nationally respected educator and scientist will advocate for a prescription of exercise that will make dramatic, positive changes in getting and staying healthy -- without drugs.

Working with residents of independent housing for seniors, Dr. Devor has seen dramatic changes in seniors who practice a daily routine of structured exercise. "Assuming there are no significant underlying health issues, the exercise prescription for seniors is not qualitatively different from anyone else," he said. "You just 'ramp up' in the beginning slowly." [ more ]
