THE WIZARD POLL
pad
The 'thwack' Poll: Is Tony Stark a Skrull?
Yes! The real Iron Man will return.
Maybe, I still can't decide.
No way. That'd be a cop out!
I hope he is! It'd explain a lot.

Mattel kicked off their panel with talk of the highly anticipated Dark Knight toys. As many of you know there will be a basic line, a deluxe line with light up weapons and the Movie Masters line which is designed by the Four Horsemen. We've all seen the first wave, but will have to wait until San Diego to hear the second.

So, we already knew that Mattel had plans to continue the JLU toy line, but had no idea until today just exactly what kind of coolness theyd be offering.

The first wave will hit in August and heres the breakdown as far as packaging goes.

Superman Prime, classic grey and blue Batman, Stargirl, Hawkman and Kilowog will be offered on single cards. Three packs will include Galatea (the JLU version of Power Girl), Superman and Huntress along with Captain Atom, John Stewart Green Lantern and Supergirl. Finally, there will be two six packs, the first is called Attack from Apokolips and comes with New God characters Mantis, Forager, Superman, Darkseid, Mr. Miracle and Lashina. The second set is a re-painted and -decoed version of the Grodd Strikes box with a black furred Grodd, a show-accurate Lex Luthor, Red Hood, Flash, Superman and Batman.

Finally, and already covered elsewhere on the site, probably, but by no means leastly, Mattel announced their San Diego Comic Con exclusives today, one of which is a Giganta 2-pack that comes with a standard sized Giganta along with an 8-inch version to smash puny humans.

Also, Mattel announced some of the figures that will be dropping in Wave 2 which will include the Atomic Skull, Silver Banshee, KGBeast, They Key, Shadow Thief and a new Batman.

The biggest surprise of the day came from a sneak peak of the DC Unvierse Classices Wave 6 which looks to include Mr. Miracle, Hawkman and a black costume Superman that might be the version he worse when he came back from the dead or the version that Superman Prime wore in Countdown.

The fans in the room went wild for the previously announced DC Infinite Heroes series, a 3 and 3/4 inch based line. Mattel promised 54 figures in 2008 to come in single, 3, 6 and 8-packs, including Arch Enemies packs.

The first wave will include Adam Strange, Black Adam, Black Hand, Guy Gardner, the current Atom and Captain Marvel individually and 3-packs with Jim Gordon and two GCPD swat officers and a Flash pack with Mirror Master and Weather Wizard.

The fine folks at Mattel, DC, Warner Bros. and the Four Horsemen then opened up the floor to questions. Here's the highlights:

A smaller version of the Atom along with other smaller figs like Mr. Mxy and Bat-Mite might come along with figures in the future.

Doomsday, Darkseid and Amazo might eventually make their way into the build-a-figure format.

Golden Age characters are in the works.

The JLU line will include more fan-requested accessories like Wonder Pig.

The fate of the JLU line is entirely in the fans' hands now that there's no longer a cartoon tie-in and it's being aimed directly at the fans.

In 2009, there will be at least one female figure in each DCUC line.

All three lines might include Legion of Super-Heroes characters, though there won't be a line based on the cartoon.

The previously con exclusive white Man-Bat will be released in 2009, but this time brown.

The Movie Masters line might expand to cover other DC movies like the original Superman.

The Batman cartoon line might keep going if there's enough fan interest.

They're looking at toys to tie-in with the recently announced Brave and the Bold cartoon.

Lobo is a con exclusive because he's an adult-oriented character and they don't want kids getting their hands on him.

There will not be any Mattel-made Vertigo figures, DC Direct holds that license.

Look to SDCC for info on potential DCUC box sets.
