Environmental Outreach

Lockheed Martin's Environmental Commitment Includes Community Outreach

Environmental Stewardship Environmental stewardship is an important aspect of Lockheed Martin's commitment to communities in which we operate. Through its Foundation and operating companies, the Corporation supports several initiatives, including:

  • The National Geographic's Water Trail Program;
  • The Chesapeake Bay Foundation's inquiry-based environmental education program for public schools;
  • The Izaak Walton League of America's Save Our Streams and Wetlands programs;
  • Environmental Expo at California State University, San Bernardino;
  • The Nature Conservancy's Mountains to Marshes program to protect more than 92 million acres of valuable lands and waters worldwide;
  • A national teacher training program at The Keystone Center, where teachers learn how to effectively investigate environmental issues with their students; and
  • The Conservation Fund's efforts to preserve the country's natural resources through public and private partnerships.

Lockheed Martin businesses support initiatives in their local communities as well. For example:

  • Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) at a Lockheed Martin location in Palmdale, Calif., organized a community trash clean-up event recognizing Antelope Valley Pride Month and Earth Day. Approximately 40 Palmdale employees, family and friends volunteered their morning removing trash from Prime Desert Woodland Preserve.
  • ESH at a Lockheed Martin facility in Fort Worth, Texas, joined forces with the company's Diversity Council and Recreation Association Cycling Club as well as the City of Fort Worth to organize an Earth Day celebration that promoted energy conservation, water use reductions and clean air. An estimated 1,000 employees participated.
  • Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Ga., has an ongoing partnership with the Georgia Pollution Prevention Assistance Division Partnering Program. As spokesperson for the Governor's Anti-Litter Campaign, the Marietta facility's pollution prevention coordinator gave five presentations to 70 students at a local elementary school. The presentations addressed how anti-littering and recycling are linked together.

Dozens of employees from multiple departments joined corporate environmental stewardship activities in New Orleans to beautify a city park as part of the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort. Environmental stewardship activities included planting shoreline grasses to reduce erosion, planting flowers and park/shoreline cleanup.
