Exclusive: Lost Rescues Denis Leary's TV Wife!

Is Rescue Me's Tommy Gavin about to suffer yet another personal tragedy? Reliable sources close to Lost confirm to me exclusively that Andrea Roth — aka Denis Leary's long-suffering spouse on Rescue Me — is joining the cast in a recurring role. Details about her character are being kept under wraps, but a recent Lost casting notice went out for a female character in her mid-thirties described as "a tough, no-nonsense and beautiful" therapist who has a tendancy to be "overly controlling and obsessive." Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Although I haven't been able to confirm the exact number of Lost episodes Roth will appear in, I imagine she'll be able to fulfill her commitment and still return to Rescue Me — that is, if there is a Rescue Me to return to. FX hasn't officially renewed the show for a fifth season. Assuming that it will be back, production will likely resume in early '08 — which would leave Roth plenty of time to squeeze in a juicy little arc on Lost.

Thoughts? Is Rescue Me's potential loss Lost's gain? I vote "Yes!"

Another new character??? That brings the total tally to, what, six new ones? Yeesh. I don't think I'm a fan of that.

Yeah there are a lot of new characters but all of them are listed as "recurring" as of right now. Lost has proven that it is able to manage its large cast better than...let's say...Heroes. Remember, all the recurring characters that died in the season finale (Naiomi, Mikhail, Tom, and a couple of others) so there really isn't a change in the number of actors. Richard (Nestor Carbonell) also won't be around until Cane is cancelled. I don't think we have anything to worry about.

thanks for pointing out all the deaths, chris; there was some discussion like this in other forums on the lost/heroes castings, and everyone apparently forgotten the body count from the last few episodes of the season.

Plus the recurring characters tend not to overshadow the regulars. They pepper the scenes adding a nice sense of continuity. I'm not worried. We've got a whole Not Penny's Boat-load of character possibilities.

I love Andrea Roth on Rescue Me so I'm VERY excited to see her on Lost! However, PLEASE tell me that Rescue Me not being picked up yet is just a formality of some kind!!! Last season, it wasn't on top of it's game (although I still loved it) and that would be terrible if that's the note it goes out on. It would be soo hard to get through a summer without the boys of the 62 Truck and the always crazy Gavin family!

Don't get rid of Rescue Me! I think that it's one of the best shows on T.V. It's realistic. That's a lot more than I can say for most shows. Please don't get rid of it!!!!!

I also believe Lost has been able to juggle multiple recurring characters better than most shows, my only problem is that we know that every new person that shows up will be killed off, it's gotten really melodramatic.

I don't know if Desmond, Ben and Juliet were originally casted as recurring characters, but they sure have become key pieces of the Lost puzzle.

OHMYGAWD! They just gotta bring back my fire fightin honeys of the 62! This season was by far one of the best with Tommy "clean" and sober and the most, gulp, normal??? of the Gavin crew! And hey, anyone that saw the season finale with Tommy and Janet ... pardon the pun..where there is smoke there's fire!

LOST will do just fine - bring on all the characters the writers want to, I trust them!

Rescue Me will be renewed if Denis Leary wants it to, after all, FX renewed Dirt for god's sake!

To mimi5458 ... I believe "Lost" is coming back in February and the entire season will then be shown with no repeats. It's a while to wait, but worth it to get an uninterrupted season. After Fox started doing this with "24", it made the storylines much easier to follow.

I really hope F/X renews "Rescue Me." It's a great show, and I love that it airs in the summer when there's not much else to watch. Plus they need to allow the viewers some closure.
