AC/DC Completes Recording New Album - Apr. 22, 2008
AC/DC has finished recording its new album and is currently mixing the effort for a late 2008 release, the group's vocalist Brian Johnson revealed this morning (Tuesday, April 22) during an interview with Washigton D.C.'s DC 101 radio station. Johnson has apparently left the studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where AC/DC guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young have remained with producers Mike Fraser and Brendan O'Brien in order to complete work on the CD. Brian also stated that the band will next work on getting the artwork done and take care of the promotional activities in connection with the release, to be followed by a tour.

According to Reuters, the new album will be AC/DC's first for Sony BMG's Epic Records label, which reissued the band's back catalog a few years ago.

O'Brien is also known for his work with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, PEARL JAM, AUDIOSLAVE and VELVET REVOLVER, among others.

VH1 Classic host Eddie Trunk recently revealed on his New York radio show that AC/DC was rumored to be planning a "farewell" tour for later in the year.

In other news, "Totally Baked", a "stoner comedy" on which Brian Johnson is listed as an executive producer, will debut on DVD today, April 22. Johnson also wrote three new songs for the movie's soundtrack.

Is this not the year of classic metal? Iron Maiden "Somewhere back in time" tour, new Judas Priest CD, new AC/DC to come out......can an old metalhead ask for anything more?

..well, maybe for Sharon to piss off!

Why does it feel like this album has been decades in the making. I mean AC/DC - like The Ramones - generally make albums that are remarkably similar to each other - what hs taken them so long to crank another one out? I feel like we were reading about this two years ago!

I'm as excited about this as everyone else. It's a new AC/DC album. FUCK YEAH!!! But to be honest...I wasn't all that impressed with Stiff Upper Lip. I listened to it for a while after it's release...but it's not one of their classic albums. And I'm guessing that whatever they put out next is gonna be in the same vein as SUL. I'm excited about it because they haven't done anything in 8 years. Not because they're gonna crank out another classic. That's probably not gonna happen.
POWERAGE, HIGH VOLTAGE, BinB....lots of classic albums that I absolutely love. But I'm not counting on another.
And to answer someone else's question on why it's taken so long?? Because they don't HAVE to put anything out anymore. That's why.
I can't wait. Put that fucker out!! But I know what it's gonna be when it's released.

maybe the reason it's taken them 8 years is because otherwise people wouldnt be so excited....

This band retired fifteen years ago. Razor's Edge was their last hurrah. The only two studio albums since then were pure crap -- lame riffs, lifeless songs and a spent vocalist. Their albums from '75-'90 will be in heavy rotation at my house till the day I die, but you'd have to pay me to listen to anything after that. That said, I hope they make me eat my words with this new one.

Here's a band that does not rely on 57 piece drum sets, 43 effects pedals per guitar player, 18 string basses, 19 keyboards, and a stage that is from a 15th century druid fuck palace.
They don't need songs that are on 17/8 or 12/3 time.

They are balls-to-the-wall, stripped down, chest thumping rock!!

I kind of agree with Brine B - I wasn't too impressed with Stiff Upper Lip either. I thought Ballbreaker was a damn good record and far superior. Just my opinion - but then it's not like they were vastly different either!

THE FIRST TIME I HEARD DIRTY DEEDS. AC/DC INSTANTLY BECAME MY FAVORITE BAND AND REMAINED SO FOR MANY YEARS. BUT, I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT BRIAN'S "SHOT" VOICE JUST GETS ON MY NERVES NOW. SORRY. IT'S THE TRUTH. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE AND RESPECT THIS BAND FOR WHAT THEY'VE DONE. FOR OVER TWO DECADES THEY CONSISTENTLY PUT OUT SOME OF THE GREATEST MUSIC EVER WRITTEN. EVEN AFTER LOSING ONE OF THE GREATEST FRONT MEN EVER. NOT ALOT OF BANDS CAN DO THAT. I WOULD LOVE FOR THIS ALBUM TO KICK ASS. AND EVEN IF IT'S NOT, I WILL NOT CRITICIZE THEM.

RESPECT.

i love AC/DC, especially the early 80s era (still love Bon, so don't get that one started). the idea that they lost it after Razor's Edge, i disagree with.

i loved Ballbreaker. "The Furor," "Whiskey On The Rocks" and the title tracks are three mean-ass AC/DC songs with killer playing. yes, Brian's voice is too fuzzy, but give the old guy a break at his age. even with a B- Brian Johnson, that album has about 7 killer tracks.

now, Stiff Upper Lip left me a bit stiff-less. i like about 3 songs a whole lot but find it there weakest since Blow Up Your Video.

my opinion. if you're open-minded and love AC/DC, give Ballbreaker a spin with a few whiskey's in you. it quote Mike Patton, "you might surprise yourself."

i bet the new album trumps Stiff. if this is it, they'll go out in fine style.

cheers.

Looking forward to the new release regardless as I found "Ballbreaker" and "Stiff Upper Lip" to be good but not great albums. This new release should change things though.

On that note, I would like to point out that I LOVE both Ballbreaker and Stiff Upper Lip. Both stripped down ROCKERS. With that being said, when AC/DC puts out an album...it's not a release...it's an EVENT!
Long live the Young brothers.
Long live Rock N Roll. Pass me a beer, because tonight I celebrate AC muthafuckin' DC!

Yea yea yea --- Okay, so Duh -- OBVIOUSLY they are not anywhere Near the musical vain of RUSH, we get it. But they are still a great band, maybe not New Music wise (8 years?! what are they trying to do---outlast Boston for productivity!!??), but having seen them LIVE many times, they Always put on a Great show---LOUDER THAN F___K, but a great Live show. RUSH is also a great band and Incredible musicians---if you know some musicians/friends, or play, you would realize this as well. If not, hey, we all have our diff. opinions. The Stones are a great band also who haven't really put out a great album in Years, but for some old dudes, they put on a great Live show with their staging and lights, as does Genesis as well my friend. Great LIVE SHOWS, great older albums/cd's, who LIKE AC/DC, can AFFORD to take a lot of time off between tours or new music. Obv. bands like that have made plenty of $$$$$ to never work again anyway, right?

Get the Starfighters cds. From the same era they made 2 lps and the singer was a candidate to fill Bon's shoes as the new vocalist. I think a member or towo is related to Angus, a cousin, maybe? I think therockdetector has the info. I'd rather hear this than the Brian Johnson era. Ditto for Angel city (or AKA The Angels).

I am sorry but Stiff Upper Lip is not a bad album at all. Ballbreaker has it's moments. I am so surprised because except for the first 2 songs (Thunderstruck) & (Fire Your Guns) and one later (Got you By The Balls), I think it is their weakest release ever. I mean c'mon... It was produced by the late Bruce Fairbairn. No offense intended but every album he did with an establised act was weak.

Theyr just not as liked because its nothing new, which im predicting will be the same deal with the new one. A cracking album, which wont get rated next to their back catalogue.
