OMG – Gossip Girl is back! And I’m not the least bit embarrassed to say that I’m almost giddy about it. It’s been a long spring break, and I’m not just referring to the three weeks the gang had off from school, but the more than three months we’ve had to wait since the last new episode. Finally we got to see the first of five post-strike episodes – and the start of Blair’s merciless revenge.Of course, before Blair could start plotting to get back her throne back, she had to face everyone at school, which was no easy task. Who can’t relate to a really difficult first day back when you just want to hide from everyone? Thankfully, she had Serena to practically drag her back to the hallowed halls of Constance Billard. This week will be a big one in the short life of the CW. Gossip Girl returns with the first of five new episodes and the backing of its provocative promo campaign built around the show's "OMFG" moments. The campaign is getting the freshman series some attention. But will it get the ratings that the CW SRSLY needs? The Biz talked with network president Dawn Ostroff about how she's banking on GG to turn the network's fortunes around.TVGuide.com: There was a lot of promise when the CW was created out of the most popular shows of the WB and UPN. Are you surprised that it hasn't been easier to get it to work from a ratings standpoint?Dawn Ostroff: We had this huge challenge of migrating people. It was asking the consumer in every market to change channels, whether they were watching UPN or the WB. Talk about an OMG moment. The CW has announced that when Gossip Girl returns this Monday, it will be a broadcast-only event, meaning no online streaming of the upcoming new episodes. "For these next five weeks the epicenter of the Gossip Girl universe will be on the CW's broadcast television airwaves," network president Dawn Ostroff said in a statement.In addition to its new Mondays-at-8 slot, GG will air encores Sundays at 6.Lest the Web-savvy be left totally in the cold, CWTV.com will serve up post-episode interviews with Gossip Girl exec producer Josh Schwartz, plus behind-the-scenes video, two-minute recaps of every episode (posted after the Monday airings), and watch-and-win contests. At least they will be later this season when we meet Georgina's extremely rich and extremely concerned Upper East Side parents.
