BORO retained the North Riding Senior Cup after defeating York City with a classy display at KitKat Crescent, writes SHAUN WILSON.

Kick-off was delayed 45 minutes due to the Boro team being held up in an accident on the A19.

York started the game brightly and nearly took the lead on five minutes when Liam Shepherd fired over the bar.

Boro briefly went down to 10 men when Stephen Thompson needed attention after a clash of heads.

The home side had another chance on 24 minutes when Jason Steele tipped over a header from close range. Boro then started to take control and shots from Thompson, Nathan Porritt and Jonathan Franks all saw good saves from City keeper Josh Mimms.

After a close fought half, the teams went into the break goalless.

Boro came straight out of the blocks in the second half with Nathan Porritt sending an early chance over the bar.

The deadlock was broken on 55 minutes when a teasing left wing cross from Porritt saw Franks ghost in at the far post to head firmly home.

Chances were coming thick and fast now for the away team with Franks being seeing a powerful left drive hit the post on 65 minutes.

Further chances for Cronesberry and Porritt came and went before a brief flurry from York saw Steele smartly save from Adam Boyes.

Porritt, who by now was pulling the strings for the away side, saw a left foot shot tipped onto the crossbar before Franks made the game safe on 88 minutes with a well taken shot.
