For my money the worst actor of all time just had to be Jack Palance, who
made even Roger Moore look human by comparison. He inevitably played the tough
guy but his wooden expressions and lifeless dialogue used to have we young
kids in the Essoldo Cinema in Stockport rolling in the aisles with laughter.
He had quite a tough looking physique and it seems that he was a boxer in his
earlier life so (unlike so many actors of his day - and today too, it seems) he perhaps wasn't gay
although I've seen no mention of a wife or regular girlfriend in any of the
reviews I've read about him so you never know do you. During a long career as
a ham he played one of the most testosterone - charged men in history, Attila the Hun - the mind boggles - in Sign of the Pagan; a
ruthless plywood cowboy hitman in the laughable Shane; and a criminal hiding
from the police, who was infected with bubonic plague in Panic in the Streets.
They don't make them like that anymore, thank The Lord. He was awarded an
Oscar for second best actor in a fourth - rate mess called City Slickers and
during his acceptance speech he was so tired and emotional that he couldn't
persuade his mouth to form any words so he did a few press-ups instead. You
couldn't make it up, could you. Now Tony Blaire, he was a REAL actor!
