Shock decision leaves America's Cup in turmoil

The future of the America's Cup was thrown back into turmoil yesterday when a panel of five judges split three to two to overturn a previous decision which had granted Larry Ellison's San Francisco-based BMW Oracle the sole right to challenge the Swiss holder Ernesto Bertarelli's Alinghi.

Sparkling racing conditions on the Bay of Palma off Puerto Portals are being matched by a sparkling performance from the American Terry Hutchinson aboard the TP52 Quantum in the fourth of six regattas in the Audi MedCup series. The man from Annapolis notched up a second and first yesterday to stretch his lead to 14 points in this Breitling regatta with just one race scheduled for today.

A Japanese adventurer has completed a three-month journey from Hawaii to Japan in a boat powered by the energy of ocean waves. The 4,800-mile voyage, which began in Honolulu in March, ended as Kenichi Horie's three-ton yacht docked in Wakayama in western Japan late Friday night.
