SU releases football schedule

The Southern University Department of Athletics has released the 2008 Jaguar football schedule that opens against Conference USA and division I-A Houston Cougars on August 30 in Houston.

This is the first meeting between the two schools. Next the Jaguars will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take on the Tigers of Tennessee State in the John Merritt Classic at LP Field, which is home to the NFL's Tennessee Titans. Last year's classic includes a fashion show, student dance, pep rally, college fair and high schools bands.

Southern will host Mississippi Valley on Sept. 13 in its first game in Mumford Stadium. Next SU will take on two tough Mississippi rivals back to back with trips to Alcorn State on Sept. 27 and then to defending SWAC champion Jackson State on Oct. 4.

Southern will host Texas Southern for homecoming on Oct. 11 then take on Florida A&M; Rattlers in Mumford Stadium. The Jaguars will then travel to Prairie View before hosting Alabama A&M; on Nov. 15.

The Bayou Classic will be held in the New Orleans Superdome against Grambling State will be held on Nov. 29.
