Immigration
Immigration is a controversial topic in American politics. In legal terms, an illegal immigrant is defined as someone living in this country in violation of U.S. immigration laws. Those who are sympathetic to illegal immigrants refer to them as undocumented workers, while extremists on the other side use the pejorative "illegal aliens." In the past, the usual response to illegal immigration has been increased border enforcement. In recent years, more attention has been paid to worksite enforcements. In addition, the traditional image of immigrants has changed as a result of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
