T-pain is a twenty-one-year-old Florida crooner who broke out last fall with "I'm Sprung," a wickedly catchy lament about a woman whose love drove him to extraordinary measures -- like doing her dishes. T-Pain's solo debut banks on the same slinky-smooth pleasures as "I'm Sprung": playful, popwise hooks (often filtered through a vocoder), light-stepping funk and clever, horny lyrics. Rappa Ternt Sanga (the title refers to T-Pain's stint in the Florida rap group Nappy Headz) too often drifts into loverman tedium, but a handful of slower cuts are saved by T-Pain's R. Kelly-worthy gift for not holding back. On the lushly harmonized "Studio Luv," T-Pain compares his woman to a flute and offers to "stroke [her] body like I do my keyboard," and on "I'm N Love (Wit a Stripper)" he lays down a gratuitously multitracked chorus before Mike Jones sums up said stripper's assets. The uptempo cuts are just as smartly constructed and lighter on their feet, with the vaguely Latin "Como Estas" taking the prize as the most jumping showcase for T-Pain's oddly charming come-ons.

It's so refreshing to buy a hiphop/r&b album that is talking about things besides drugdealing, explicit sex, and money/cars, especially by a dirty-south artist. Though there is one song about smoking weed, it's unique because it's about his first time smoking, and the song is GREAT. The songs that he does have on the album with sexual content aren't offensive and have poetic lyrics with great arrangement. His current single, In Luv With a Stripper, is the only song with lyrics that are a little on the lude side, but it's still not as nasty as a lot of other music out there. What's amazing is how he manages to still keep the hiphop/street feel throughout the album while still having elements that would appeal to the r&b/pop world. So pretty much anyone would enjoy this album. I think this album is ground-breaking and is not getting the recognition it deserves. T-Pain wrote AND produced basically the entire album, which is amazing considering he's only 21 years old! My favorite song on the album is "Fly Away" because it's a real personal account of his life, and it has a jazzy-bigband sound that is unlike any music I've heard in the last 15 years, and the vocal arrangement is awesome. The album also has it's fair share of upbeat songs that aren't the typical "crunk" type of songs you normally hear nowadays; they have his own original flavor with plenty of bass, and i love it. I hope this artist is around for a long time and makes many more albums and produces albums for other people, because I love his style and that he isn't conforming to current music trends... it's like he invented his own genre by fusing hiphop, r&b, and pop together, and the result is a masterpiece.
