Up On The Hill

Utes Come From Behind to Bury Anteaters 78-66

The Utah basketball team trailed UC-Irvine for most of the game Saturday afternoon, but went on a huge run to end the game and bury the Anteaters hopes of victory at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

UC-Irvine led 56-43 at about the midway point of the second half when Utah began what would end up being a 35-10 run to end the game and seal the 78-66 Utah win.  The most crucial stretch of that run was when Utah reeled off 14 straight to take a 57-56 lead.  That big run got the crowd going and got the Utes back in the game with the momentum swinging their way.

Irvine kept it close for a few more traded possesions, but the Utes were too much as they smothered out UC-Irvine’s hopes and chances for pulling out the road victory as Utah went on to win 78-66.  Luke Nevill and Shaun Green led Utah’s comeback with some big inside the post and fast break plays.  Utah improves their record to 4-2 and a 2-0 record on the week as they beat in-state rival Weber State 72-52 on Wednesday night on the road.

Game Day: Utah vs. Wyoming

GAME DAY: vs. Wyoming

Cowboys (5-4, 2-3)

Utes (6-3, 3-2)                 1:30 p.m.  (CSTV)

MY LINE:  Utah by 14 - 34-20

Wyoming head coach, Joe Glenn, guaranteed a Cowboy victory over the Utes to Wyoming students in Laramie during this week.  Let’s see how the Utes refute that guarantee on the field today.  Wyoming’s last visit to Rice-Eccles Stadium in 2005 resulted in a 43-13 Utah victory.  However, Wyoming took care of the Utes 31-15 last year in Laramie.  Today’s game will be more like the 2005 matchup.  Go Utes!

Boylen and Utes Open Regular Season With Blowout Win

POST GAME: vs. South Carolina Upstate

USC Upstate (0-1)    52

Utah (1-0)                    86     Final

Jim Boylen’s first game as the head coach of the University of Utah basketball team resulted in the outcome that he certainly wanted, a victory.  However, this was not “just” a victory.  It was a blowout at the Huntsman Center, but more importantly, it was the beginning of many victories that Boylen, his players and Utah basketball fans would like to see coming here in the future.

The win gets the Utes starting off on the right foot as the season begins and gets Boylen’s career as head coach at Utah off on the right foot.  He is yet to lose with a 3-0 record as Utah’s head coach including two exhibition games played during the week before the Utes’ 86-52 win over USC Upstate last night.

Boylen’s and the Utes’ next chance to prove that they are a better team this year and to get another victory and keep Boylen’s head coaching record up on the hill unblemished comes Tuesday against High Point in Seattle.  The game will played at the University of Washington.
