TOURO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF MEDICINE CALLS HACKENSACK HOME  – (Hackensack, NJ) – Touro University College of Medicine (TouroMed)– New Jersey’s first new allopathic medical school in more than 35 years – opened its administrative doors officially April 16 in Hackensack, NJ.

The school, New Jersey’s only private medical college, has established administrative headquarters in an office complex at 19 Main Street, with the intent of moving to its own building in the summer of 2008.

TouroMed is part of Touro College, a private, Jewish-sponsored school with campuses and schools in New York, California, Nevada, Florida and Israel, as well as a virtual school for e-learning.

Paul M. Wallach, MD, FACP, was named Vice President and Founding Dean for TouroMed, and comes from the University of South Florida (USF), where he was the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs and a professor of internal medicine. Wallach was at USF for 27 years, starting as a medical student and resident in internal medicine.
“I am joining an institution that is committed to excellence in education,” he said. “At TouroMed, we will build educational, research, and clinical programs that will advance health care in the region and nation.” Among the first orders of business after obtaining the appropriate administrative space is recruitment. “We’re building something very special here,” he said, “And we’re bringing together leaders in medicine and medical education. It’s an exciting time for New Jersey and the nation.”

Touro University College of Medicine (TouroMed) was established in 2007. Dedicated to advancing health care through science, compassion and caring, TouroMed is based in Hackensack, NJ.
