“The dissecting room and the slaughterhouse furnished many of my materials; and often did my human nature turn with loathing from my occupation, whilst, still urged on by an eagerness which perpetually increased, I brought my work near to a conclusion." – Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN
As result of having to hurry work along in the face of the writers strike the finale ends up a patchwork frankenstein that isn't nearly as satisfying as it may have been in the original version. This episode was called "Powerless" and that is exactly what the audience was, powerless to stop what was turning out to be a very anti-climactic ending to an uninspired second season.
Last year HEROES ended with a bang literally, this year, things had to be truncated because of a writer’s strike in Hollywood. So, take that into consideration when thinking about how bad this season was at the end. Plots were changed and endings were re-shot to give chapter two more of a close than it had originally. But, I still noticed that there were no clever catch phrases this season, and I know they probably couldn’t sell "Catch the vial, save the world" t-shirts at all of the convention.
Let’s look at the swiss cheese holes of this plot to end a season before I talk about the few things I did like.
Hiro left Adam, buried alive in a grave. He’s stopped for good because of that? The guy doesn’t die unless you shoot him in the head, it’s a pretty safe bet that given time he will dig himself out.

Niki gets blown up in a fire set by punks in New Orleans. I almost can’t even comment on this one. First they kill DL Hawkins in a "waste of a life" fashion and now they have orphaned Micha by killing Niki? Whatever, ass.
Ando was used once again to get a re-cap from Hiro about what has been happening. Big excitement for James Kyson Lee.
Sylar gets away and now has the ONE power that he wanted last season, so does this mean NYC is going boom again? We know nothing about how he absorbs powers so maybe a little blood is as good as a munched brain. So does that mean for Season Three that since the second season sucked, they’re going back and re-telling the first season, but with fewer heroes and less drama?
Maya was killed and then brought back. Obviously people of Latin heritage should avoid Isaac Mendez’s loft, it is a place of death for any one Latin that crosses the threshold.
The plot of several heroes wanting to unmask for the world. That is so CIVIL WAR Spider-man of them. The writers need to look for new ideas not directly taken from hot comic book titles.
Oh yeah, and Nathan gets shot. A move orchestrated by mommy dearest? Was this writers’ choice or did Adrian Pasdar jump ship after the shuffling shambling corpse of season two left its stink on his doorstep?
OK- so now some good things.
Elle got to be a hero. I really like Kristen Bell on HEROES. I think she has an interesting character that is worth exploring and developing. So I’m glad she’s still around.
Next chapter is called ‘Villains’. Good. I’m bored with the heroes, bring on the bad guys. The more the merrier.
Micha is an orphan. Yes I hated them killing Niki, but at least this means more of Nichelle Nichols for next season.
My favorite thing about this episode though was…the season is finally over! Time to clean the slate and start with something better in 2008. I still have hope, but after this season I admit my faith and loyalty was a bit shaken.

Maybe a better catch phrase for this season would have been, "End the season, save the show."

Let's hope that's the one prophecy that will be fulfilled before HEROES becomes NBC's LOST -- a once great show in first season, now lost in its own murky mythology.

I'm pretty sure adam will not ever be able to dig his way out. . . there is no where for the earth to go. He might be dug out at some point but being under 6 feet of earth is fairly permanent.

C+? its a little harsh don't you think? first its great the writers are killing off charecter people like. don't worry. there're 18 more heroes who could be equally hot just waiting for a script. things i loved. Hiro burying adam. thats can only lead to dark places for both hiro and adam. Elle doing a solid for the "good" side the kensei back story with its sad ending. Peter being a huge sucker and the talk with nathan afterward. things i liked/could of been better HRG getting shot/reanimated. i would of kept in dead or out of sight longer. maybe show him re-animated in the final shots of powerless Nathan getting shot Bobby Kennedy style...very lame. but then again so was the idea to take our powers public. things i hated. maya and her stupid brother. lame. i want those minutes wasted watching this show back. The lame exit of D.L. he should have died in the line of duty.

The writers have clearly lost their mind if they decide to kill Nathan and keep Maya around. Their decision making goes from bad to worse with each episode. Why is anyone still watching this drivel?

I'm pretty pissed that Niki was 'killed', but I have a feeling she'll come back.

Sylar doesn't 'have' that power yet, it was just a blood transfusion - I mean, do HRG or Maya have it aswell? No. I agree with you about the rest though. Doubt they'll leave Niki/Jessica dead, Ali Larter is just too hot to kill off like that - and besides she is the only 'good' character who is a badass
