USDA's Agriculture in the Classroom Program and the National Agriculture in the Classroom Consortium are pleased to announce the 2008 Excellence in Teaching About Agriculture Awards Program. This competitive program will recognize a select group of teachers for their successful efforts in teaching agricultural concepts in their curriculum.
Based on the availability of funds, we anticipate five awards being made for the 2008 program. The awards will be determined by a panel of experts knowledgeable in agriculture, education and AITC for their outstanding contributions to education about American agriculture. Recipients of these distinguished awards will receive an honorarium of $500 and up to $1,500 for travel expenses to the 2008 National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference, June 25-28, in Costa Mesa, California.
Nominations are now open for these awards. The nomination guidelines and required forms are included with the downloadable application below. Note that an original and five copies of the nomination are required for consideration. These nominations must be received by the national AITC office on or before February 1, 2008. Please refer to the nomination guidelines which are included with the application for further information and addresses for submission.
This is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate our enthusiasm and your success in teaching about agriculture. We look forward to receiving a nomination from each State. Please contact Lindell Williams at 202-720-9811, if you have questions or need additional information.
