Safety Adam Archuleta had one interception in his lone season with the Bears in 2007. |
The 5-11, 215-pounder had been benched by the Redskins midway through the 2006 season after signing the richest free-agent contract by a safety in NFL history.
With the Bears, Archuleta struggled in run support and pass coverage. He broke his hand in a Week 3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, sat out one game, and then returned the following week. He eventually lost his starting job in late November to Brandon McGowan.
In his lone season in Chicago, Archuleta failed to revert to the form he displayed in St. Louis when Bears coach Lovie Smith and defensive coordinator Bob Babich were Rams assistants.
With Smith serving as Rams defensive coordinator during Archuleta's first three NFL seasons, the Arizona State product started 12 games and helped St. Louis reach the Super Bowl as a rookie in 2001 before registering career highs with 116 tackles in 2002 and five sacks in 2003.
Roster additions: In other news Tuesday, the Bears agreed to terms with four undrafted free agents: Lindenwood punter Zacrey Atterberry, Oregon State defensive end Gerard Lee, Boston College guard Ryan Poles and North Carolina State tight end Marcus Stone. All four players participated in the Bears' rookie minicamp this past weekend on a tryout basis.
