Server Transfer

May 7th, 2008 by MacBros - 28 Peepers read this post.

The transfer of all my websites is actually currently underway. The complete transfer of all my web sites will be completed at around 8am Thursday morning.

Posting should resume then hopefully.

The sites all will be loading faster than they have been in the past and there will also be no more down time.

I’m not switching hosts, because I have one of the most awesome plans right now, but I’m just having my web sites transferred to a better server.

Remember What’s Coming In 7 Days?

May 4th, 2008 by MacBros - 89 Peepers read this post.

Do you know, or did you forget?

In another seven days, it is Mothers Day. That’s right kids! It’s time to show your Mom just how much you Love her and how much you appreciate everything she has done for you. Even though you should do that every day anyway, but Mothers Day makes it so you don’t have a reason not to.

Or, you might have one of those Mommies that won’t LET you forget right? Or if you did, you would have to be reminded every day until the next Mothers day right? LOL

Unfortunately for me I can’t do anything really fancy like I would like to because work is being really stingy with the hours and I’m lucky to get rent paid. But if all goes well, hopefully I’ll be able to get a nice Mothers Day Card or mother’s day flowers. I would just feel really bad not doing anything.

I’ll be working my ass off at work since that day is one of the busiest days of the year at work besides New Years Eve, so hopefully I can get something to her by that day. Maybe having flowers delivered might be an option with something like 1-800-FLOWERS.com ya’ think? If you’re a busy body like me, that could be an option for you too.

It tough at times, but I’ll manage.

What do you plan on doing for your Mommy?

Site Downtime Update

May 4th, 2008 by MacBros - 69 Peepers read this post.

This is just another update to the update that updated the original Downtime post.

Just so you know, that I know, that you know that this site has been running a tad lot slower than norm over the past few weeks I just wanna’ say that I too know. You know?

So after a few chat support conversations, (Who by the way are super! Never before have I experienced 110% customer support like THC provides.) they have come to the conclusion that with so many clients with my particular Plan For Life plan, there have been an enormous amount of SQL calls. That basically meant that the server would puke and end up not being able to recover. That’s what happened the other day at around 12am (My time) and lasted for about 7 hours or so.

So, with only the customers request, will they move them to another, more stable and faster, server. Mainly because of the down time this will cause due to the transferring of files and databases. They don’t want to move people when either they aren’t having issues or don’t want any downtime. (So I’m thinking anyway, but I could be wrong)

So, as it turns out, that what I thought would take place this weekend is actually going to take place on Wednesday.

I’ve been told that after the transfer has been completed, these sites will be better, faster, stronger, and more stable than any other man has ever been server.

So I have accepted the downtime side effects, just so it all end up better in the long run.

Wouldn’t you do the same?

BTW, THC is still rated the best by far for hosting. Don’t let my little bungle up detour you from an awesome service. AS you can see, the support staff is great to work with and they get the job done. There’s no beating around the bush like other hosts do by trying to point the finger at their customers, and not really taking the time to resolve the issues.

Two Thumbs Up THC!

Do you like gory movies?

May 4th, 2008 by MacBros - 71 Peepers read this post.

If you do enjoy an intense gory movie, and you’re a bit more luckier than I am, a movie called Frontier(s) is going to be hitting select theaters May9th, you can check select theater listings to see if you are close to one. Unfortunately for me, none of those theaters are located close to me at all. So I will have to wait until May 13th to watch the gore fest of a movie on DVD.

After watching the trailer, I was hooked, line and sinker. I will occasionally sit back and see just how well I get all squeamish while watching a movie like this. If you like movies like Saw or Hostel, then this one will be right u p your ally, but tweaked up a lot more.

Just because this movie takes the gore theme to the limit, it was deemed to be excessively violent and extremely sadistic and was slapped with an NC-17. That made it nearly impossible to market to a wide range of theaters, but instead of dulling the movie down to a rated ‘R ‘ movie they left it the way it was intended to be viewed and left the movie Unrated. So they can only show it in selected theaters. Not a lot of Unrated movies get into theaters at all, but Frontier(s) did.

You know what? The more I read about the controversy and even after watching the unrated Trailers, I want to see this movie even more!

I like a good shock fest, it’s to bad they couldn’t include it in the anticipated After Dark Horrorfest’s 8 Films To Die For movie night. I bet this one would have scared the pants off of everybody.

It’s really sad that a bunch of ‘Leave it to Beaver’ family wanna-be’s have to rune it for the horror movie fans. It’s to bad that it’s these people that get to rate movies and other media, it’s to bad that a lot of movies don’t get the big screen opportunities these days because of them.

So check out the theater location, and see this movie if you can because it’s just going to be for a week. So consider this a heads off.. err. sorry, I meant to say, heads up.

Come back again later.

UPDATE: All my sites will be moved to a much better server on Wednesday. So Faster and more stable my sites will be! YAY!

City of Fredericton NB - Flood of 2008

May 2nd, 2008 by MacBros - 448 Peepers read this post.

Well I did a lot of walking around town today (May1st) and I actually enjoyed it. I will have to do that more often because I felt really good and full of energy when I got home. So good I decided to grab 8 cans of Keiths Beer.

While in town, I got to the bank as it was one of two main reasons to walk into town today. The bank was closed due to the flooding, but fortunately the ATM’s were working. I had to make a deposit so I could pay rent. But that’s to boring to get into.

The second reason for walking the streets was to take some pictures and video of the flooded areas of the city. I believe there are 35 pictures that I took and another 5 1/2 minutes of video, which you can watch here.

The pictures were uploaded to both of my galleries. You can view the pictures in my web site gallery’s Fredericton NB - Flood of 2008, or you can go to my Flickr Pro account and view the ultra hi-rez photos in my Flickr’s Flood Set.

I used Google Earth to make an aerial view if what I witnessed to be flooded. Now there is probably flooding in a lot of other places, but I just marked in what I saw. Maybe Corey can add to the image if he feels like it.

Click on the image to open it up in flickr so you can see the large image.

Flood-city-arial

Sorry for posting this so late, but I had to watch my Favorite TV Shows. CSI, Survivor, and LOST were on and I watch these shows ritualistically. I have to say I’m more LOST with LOST now BTW.

When I went into work Wednesday, they decided it was do dangerous to leave the power on in the city in the parts the flooding is the worst, so the clubs were shut down and it was pretty quiet at work. But I guess it was pretty busy in the day since most of the restaurants in the center of town were shut down.

The water started to flood the basement of the restaurant by coming up through the sewer pump that pumps the water from the sinks out. They have to have it because it’s below the water table, hence the flood water coming up through the floor.

The power was off all day Thursday in the flood zones, and apparently will be until the water recedes. They even had to boot all the folks out of one of the Hotels in the Flood Zone. I bet a lot of vacationers were pissed off.

There was Media all over the place. I had a hard time staying out of the camera view. It was crazy watching them every place trying to milk every possible disastrous moment they could.

This actually happens every year, but unfortunately it hasn’t been this bad since 1973.

They’re saying it will peak tonight, but that can change at any hour, so you really don’t know what to expect.

A lot of folks down river from me are probably going to have it worse since they drop a bit lower to sea level and are in the major flood plains. Just hope mom and Dad do alright. Mom was saying that the water is actually right at the back steps of one of my brother’s place. And if it peaks tonight, he will probably need his hip waders for sure.

UPDATE:4:30pm May 2nd.
CTV has put up a section on their site to display the pictures submitted by other New Brunswick residents.

I took the airplane up and took some video so it’s available if you have 30 or so extra minutes to watch video of the City of Fredericton Flood Areas, or you can skip through it too if you want to watch certain spots. No I didn’t actually take the video in the airplane, just kidding, it’s from the City Web Site. :D

Lights Out - City Shut Off

May 1st, 2008 by MacBros - 123 Peepers read this post.

Last night I went to check the city cams and saw…well…nothing. The power was shut off on my side of the city.

I have to head out to the bank and hopefully there’s power there!

It’s really windy outside and I was planning on taking some pictures, so I may or may not. I’ll bring the camera with me anyway.

I just finished watching some news footage and WOW! I’m wondering if I can actually get to my bank now!

The flooding is getting pretty bad here in town.

I’ll post more info later.

UPDATE:

I was just going to comment on Corey’s comment, but thought it would best be put here.

I just got back from taking a shit load of video and pictures (Will post as soon as I edit video)

The bank was dry, but shut down. I was able to use the ATM though.

I took video and pictures from the Armories to the walking trail bridge, it was flooded in the intersection behind the playhouse,  and up around Brunswick street where it was also flooded.

All the buildings in the area were running pumps to get the water out of their basements. All you can hear is the motors from the pumps running in the city.

Lord Beaverbrook Hotel was closed. They booted all their customers out.

The art building was also closed. I hope they emptied their basement!
