I finally made the hummus and website updates

Posted on July 15th, 2008 in In The News, Web Maintenance by Vegan Momma

hummus.jpgI finally got around to making hummus yesterday. Remember those beans, well I used the leftover ones in this dish. I’ll write more about the topic when I post the recipe on The Raw and The Cooked.

Trust me, it’s almost complete. I just need to snap a photo and upload it to accompany the delightfully tasty recipe. Actually, there are two versions a fat free version and a version that I’ve added healthy fats (sunflower seed cheese, it’s actually quite tasty.) Sunflower seeds is an excellent source of vitamin E, magnesium, and selenium.

I didn’t use bread for the dip as shown in the picture, veggies were used for the dip along with raw vegetable chips (My diet is at least 80% raw foods) a healthier alternative and a delightful change. The recipe is simple and definitely ebook worthy so it’s going into both additions of my ebook the free version along with the paid version. I haven’t decided on when I’ll be releasing it, but it’s coming. I’ll also be releasing an ebook that focuses on natural remedies that you can make at home.

Changes are here, and more to come…
The past few months have been extremely busy for myself. I’m behind the scenes working to complete the goals I’ve set out for myself on my personal websites. Some of the changes I imagine are starting to be noticed here on Vegan Momma. It’s evident in the new readers I’m picking up and the websites that have been linking here.

I’ve always wanted to come back to writing about health, nutrition, and exercise on this website and I do a lot of that already. There is still a lot of misinformation out there about health, nutrition, fitness, it’s too much a part of my life not to. Food politics (that don’t necessarily have to do with veganism) is a topic I’m passionate about and you’ll see me write about it here a lot more. Yes, I’ll be writing about veganism.

My stats show me that I still have a lot of readers that land here searching for information about the subject so I’ll try to do my part to educate those who land on my website. I’m definitely not ashamed of being Vegan although I haven’t talked about it as much as I used to in the early days of Vegan Momma. I definitely don’t want to be “preaching to the choir” and have a vegan only website. There that focus solely on veganism and do it very well.

Although I do my best not to make feel uncomfortable (it’s definitely not what I’m about) The website is headed in a different direction, so it might not appeal to everyone and I’m fine with that. I cannot please everyone all the time. However I’ll be writing more about topics I love. It will be interesting to see what goes on here over the next few months. I’ve enjoyed the interaction that I’ve had with the many I’ve met on this website, through email, and many other websites.

A lot of people have been instrumental in making me get off my butt and move into the direction I’ve been fighting for over a year and I’ll be mentioning them in another post. I’ll be writing that later this week.

This cartoon made me laugh, definitely not me. I’m a morning and night person but I loved how he justified his “environmentally friendly” day.

I’ve talked about another contest coming to Vegan Momma for a few months and I’ve finally decided on a way to hand out the prize. I’m basing it on comments. I’m near the 5,000 mark so the reader who leaves comment 5000 will get the prize. So what goodies am I giving out? First, I’m giving out a 2 oz samples for Solay home cleaning products a great option for those who are trying to become more environmentally friendly.

Also, I’ll be adding a few products from my own product line. I make and sell vegan friendly products. I’ll be including products in two sizes; 8 ounce and 16 ounce. If insects find your skin delicious, you can beat them off with one of my all natural insect sprays. Additionally you’ll be able to pamper your skin with sugar scrubs, and moisturizing body butters. I’m thinking of tossing something else in the prize package also, but I’m still trying to decide what it will be.

I’ll be posting pictures of the products along with the ingredients that go into the products that I’ll be offering from my product line in a later post.

Question: I haven’t asked this in a while but how are the workouts going? I’m getting ready to head to the gym. I’ll be working on back, abdominals, calves, and arms today.

Happy Father’s Day

Happy-Fathers-Day.jpg

I hope all the dad’s have a very wonderful Father’s Day. Then again every day is father’s day. However, it is nice that we have a day set aside to honor all the fabulous fathers out there.

I will be giving my father a gift from Aiyana and myself; an iPod touch. He has the second generation ipod something I gave him, he has rapidly run out of space so I felt it was time I gave him an upgrade.

Question: Does anyone have any plans for the day?

Silly screw-up leads to no email

Posted on February 25th, 2008 in In The News by Vegan Momma

@.jpegI should have known something was up when my emails from a few of my accounts dwindled down to nothing. If I remember correctly this happened very early last week. Early this morning I decided to check to see what was up. I had sent off a few attachments and articles last week, followed up a few times with a few people but heard nothing. That was odd since that wasn’t like them. Although I’m not sure if any of my emails were received I know I wasn’t getting any of them. What caused this major screw up I had accidentally deleted my email account and had to set it up again however, when it came to setting up my “incoming mail” I used the wrong information.

Guess how many email is waiting for me this morning? Well, the “unread mail” is now at 450 and new mail is still pouring in. I can guarantee you it’s not spam. The only email that gets through is legitimate emails. Oh joy! I’m feeling the love already. I know a few people that I communicate with via email read my blogs if you sent something and didn’t hear back from me you know why. No, I wasn’t blowing you off. I’ll be getting back to you; hopefully, today definitely by tomorrow.

What I’ve learned is when I’m distracted, and I have been lately, at times I can lose focus and make mistakes.

Question: Has anyone else made any silly screw-ups with their computers?

Another Contest coming to Vegan Momma

Posted on February 21st, 2008 in In The News by Vegan Momma

Leaf.pngAnother day another contest well maybe not today; However, there will be another contest coming to Vegan Momma in the near future. The goodies arrived in the mail this past weekend. It wasn’t as much as I expected so I’m planning to add something else. What will it be? I’m not sure, but I might include something from my own product line. I believe this theme will be “environmentally friendly.” I’ll be shipping the products myself. If you live outside the USA don’t let that stop you from entering. I know I have readers from countries. If you win, I’ll the prize to you. I’ll be posting additional information about the contest soon.

Completely off topic
I still need to post my article on “Thoughts on freelance writing or how I get paid to sit around the house and do nothing.” I wrote it this past weekend and haven’t posted it yet.
