Other Activities

The Outing Club is a relaxed, friendly, fun group of people who enjoy getting to know each other in the great outdoors. In addition to all the "extreme" adventures (backpacking, climbing, caving, boating, skiing, etc) club members often get together just to have a good time and to explore the city of Madison or the state’s popular tourist destinations. Below are some typical social trips that Hoofers have enjoyed together:

Play informal games of broomball, ultimate frisbee(sometimes they play this in kayaks), hockey, or soccer.

Go out for "BOOD" (that’s beverage and food) after the Tuesday night meeting. Members might get a slice of pizza at Ian’s, or sample some steamed Russian dumplings at Pelmeni on State Street.

Visit Dr Evermor’s art sculpture park on the way to Devil’s Lake for a hike along the bluffs.

Spend a day in the Wisconsin Dells: take a Ducks boat tour, splash around at Noah’s Ark (America’s Largest Waterpark), and see a double feature at the drive-in later that night.

Watch Rhythm and Booms (the Midwest’s largest fireworks display) from boats on Lake Mendota around the 4th of July holiday.

Ride the Capital City Bike Trail and picnic along the way.

Go ice skating at Tenney Park, or sledding at Elver.

Drive to Milwaukee to see a special exhibit at the art museum. Attend Summerfest or the Wisconsin State Fair together as a group.

Drive down to Chicago to shop at IKEA, see the Shedd Aquarium, or visit the Surgical Science Museum and the free Lincoln Park Zoo.

Bake and decorate holiday cookies at a Hoofer’s house.

Go to the Dane County Farmer’s Market, Taste of Madison, Art Fair on the Square, or other fun summer city event.

Go snowshoeing.

The Hoofer Outing Club promotes safe, fun, outdoor and social activities that are open to all. This means we promote diversity, try to accommodate people who are disabled (within budget constraints), and do not allow harassment of any kind. For more information, please email our Accessibility Chair.
