Agent Sumo Interview
What have you been up to? Martin: Basically we've just been finishing the album and kind of getting everything ready to make things happen. It takes a long time for anything to happen and we've just been getting things together. You finish your album and master it, then you've got to do edits on different tracks etc, etc
You've got to finish that process so that you can get stuff together when you're doing the live stuff and the remixes together. This is so that everything is set up just right so that the moment you want to go ahead with it then you can.
Then everything will be ready and it's the right way you want it to be and we have the right people working with us. That just takes a surprising amount of time. |
'24 Hours' is the new single, when will that be released?
Martin: It's out in May, on the 28th
There are quite a lot of different things going on the album, is it right to say that it is on more of a clubby vibe?
Steven: It's more instrumental, but '24 Hours' is not meant to be a big splash with the video and all. It's just for the clubs really.
Martin: We just put it out to see what the people thought and to kind of test the water. People really picked up on it, which is exactly what happened with our last record and it's great! It's going to be a big club record but I don't think it's going to be a big chart record but then it was never meant it to be.
Do you know quite early on whether it's going to be a big club record? Do you get an indication of it?
Steven: Yeah sometimes you know when it's working or not!
Martin: You can usually tell when you hear the record because you get a lot of feedback.
Everyone is in the business of telling you that everything is great. It's difficult, as you know within yourself when you've made it and how well it's going to do.
Do you - because a lot of artists really rave on about how good the songs are that they have made. Then two or three years down the line - looking back they decide that it wasn't all that good...
Steven: You just know when it is going to be big but you don't know when it's going to be a huge hit as that is in the hands of the record buyer who pays for the music. You will know whether it's going to be a great record or a bad record.
Martin: I think when you've first made something you have this initial euphoria and then give yourself two weeks and you keep that in perspective. The big test is how you feel when you first play it to someone and I definitely feel that works.
