On the Couch With the Raft - its Richard X!!!
First of all, is that your usual attire?
No, this is for the video for 'Being Nobody' which is what we're doing today down in lovely Acton.
So what's it all about - dressing up in a jump suit?
I think when you see the video it will all become clear and we've also done a photo shoot in this sort of attire but I don't want to give too much away.
Can you give anything away at all?
No absolutely nothing!
Nothing, OK! From someone who is making underground music, was it always your attention to cross over to the mainstream with your innovative style?
May be not intention but that's the way it's all gone and it just came from a really obscure background. It wasn't deliberately obscure but that's where it came from and where it was being played. It was pretty non-commercial and underground and then before you know it, it's at number one so what can one do!
How would you describe your music?
It's probably different know than it was before and I would call it pop music now. And may be it was something else a couple of years ago cause of where it came from. It's all changed into that great mass of music that's just called pop.
How did you get into it initially?
I put a few records out with a fictional pop group called Girls On Top, in which I did a couple of 7" releases. There was one called 'Being?' one called 'I Wanna Dance With Numbers', one called 'One Bitch?' There was this one called 'We Don't Give A Damn About Our Friends' which eventually became the one that the Sugababes did and they didn't really fit anywhere when they first came out. Then the whole sort of scene sprung up when they were around and so did the bootleg but it wasn't just originally part of that as it was just done because it had to be.
