development associate

Headquartered in LA’s downtown financial district and managed by a staff of 12 full- and 3 part-time employees, LACO offers a collegial workplace and welcomes innovative thinking and initiative. The development associate will work as part of a five-person fundraising team that encompasses a breadth of fundraising activity. This opportunity will provide creative and support experience in the areas of grant development, “annual fund” campaigns, major and planned giving, and special events.

Job Duties

  • Research, write, manage and report on foundation, government and corporate grants for project-specific funding and general operating support
  • Log daily income
  • Enter donation data and help maintain development database; keep hard files and records accurate and up-to-date
  • Handle donor acknowledgement letters and benefit fulfillment
  • Maintain a two-year grant calendar
  • Provide staffing support at all series concerts and major special events (evenings and weekends)
  • General development team support (scheduling, mailings, correspondence, etc.)
  • General writing assignments (newsletter articles, website copy, etc.)

Qualifications
The best candidate will possess outstanding writing ability and excellent inter-personal skills; be comfortable handling multiple simultaneous assignments; be able to shuffle priorities quickly; pay close attention to detail; adhere to project deadlines; and take initiative when problems arise. Previous development experience and background in the arts or nonprofits helpful but not required.

marketing & patron services associate

The marketing team is responsible for generating ticket income and positioning the orchestra in the community particularly with a view to creating a positive and attractive image that favors good publicity and effective fundraising. The marketing and patron services associate will embrace LACO’s tagline of making great music personal by providing the personal touch in all interactions with LACO’s patrons and the community at large. The associate reports directly to the marketing director and will participate in the design and execution of all marketing, promotion and box office functions. The associate works closely with the marketing assistant and box office associate.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, personable team player with a passion for classical music. Two or more years of experience in arts administration preferred. Excellent written and verbal skills required. EOE.

Duties include but not limited to:

In association with the marketing director, generate ideas and concepts for sales, promotions and publicity, and execute strategies consisting of:

  • Direct mail campaigns including liaison with designer & photographer, printer, database and mailing houses;
  • Developing and coordinating media partnerships and advertising plans for print, broadcast and online media including copywriting and liaison with designer;
  • Establishing connections with individuals and organizations and generating and managing promotions as appropriate; seeking out electronic calendar listings and promotional opportunities;
  • Generating ideas and working with publicist to secure more coverage for LACO.

Facilitate effective marketing efforts by:

  • Overseeing, maintaining and managing database & email list; developing and executing campaigns to collect additional contacts for the snail-mail, telephone and email database; and managing email list on PatronMail;
  • Providing leads for direct mail efforts and telemarketing campaign; keep telemarketing and LACO staff up to date with concert information and promotions;
  • Website administration including copy generation and management of site database, trouble-shooting and liaising with the webmaster;
  • Managing expense budget for marketing.

Practice relationship marketing by:

  • Providing excellent customer service to all LACO patrons and contacts;
  • Generating and managing the distribution of print newsletter (2 x per year) and assisting with electronic newsletter (approx. 1 x per month) as needed;
  • For annual program book collecting and editing biographies, photographs, images and program notes, and liaising with designer and printer.

Support the box office associate and marketing assistant as needed. Includes:

  • Building concerts in the box office system such as event naming, single, subscription and discount pricing; designing and generating renewal and ticket order forms; preparing concerts for online sales;
  • Taking phone orders; fulfilling and processing orders for subscription, single and group ticket sales; processing online ticket sales; balancing out daily;
  • Handling ticket exchanges and ticket donations for subscribers;
  • Troubleshooting for the computerized box office system, online sales and credit card transactions;
  • Staffing box office on concert weekends and concert nights as needed.

administrative associate

The Administrative Associate ensures the smooth daily operation of the orchestra’s general office. The Associate is the primary coordinator of staff and board meetings, and works with various service providers to meet the office’s technology needs. The Associate reports to, and assists as necessary, the Director of Operations and Education.

Job Responsibilities

  • Staff and Board Support
  • Provide general administrative staff support, including answering of phones, sorting of mail, preparation of correspondence, daily filing, and other tasks as necessary.
  • Coordinate the office calendar, and other internal staff communications.
  • Coordinate Board and Committee meetings.
  • Provide general support to the Board, including creation of minutes, correspondence, etc.

Office Management

  • Monitor and maintain office equipment: computers, phones, fax, copier, postage meter, etc.
  • Coordinate as necessary the re-stocking of office supplies.
  • Maintain communication with building management and security

Additional Information

The ideal candidate for the position of Administrative Associate will be a detail oriented problem solver with excellent communication skills. The Associate must possess the ability to respond both quickly and with imagination to a variety of simultaneous challenges. Solid computer skills are a must. The Associate will be required to work some evening and weekend hours.
