Toronto Blue Jays centre fielder Vernon Wells will miss six to eight weeks with a broken left wrist suffered Friday night in the team's loss to the Cleveland Indians.

The Blue Jays placed Wells on the 15-day disabled list Saturday along with reliever Jeremy Accardo, who is experiencing tightness in his right forearm.

Wells landed hard after making a great diving catch in the sixth inning against the Indians.

"It didn't feel good then and as the night went on, it gradually got worse," Wells said. "I felt something grab in my right hamstring just before the catch. I guess that will be healed in plenty of time before I'm ready now."

Wells had five home runs and 24 runs batted in with a .281 batting average so far this season. He was starting to regain his all-star form after off-season shoulder surgery and was riding a nine-game hitting streak at the time of the injury.

Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi had acquired veteran outfielders Kevin Mench and Brad Wilkerson before the injury to bolster an outfield corps that already includes Alex Rios, Matt Stairs and Shannon Stewart.

"There's no use complaining because that won't help," manager John Gibbons said. "We'll try to play our best with the players we have. That's all we can do.

"If this job was easy, it wouldn't be any fun."

Toronto (17-20) filled the vacant roster spot on Saturday by recalling Joe Inglett, who had a very brief stay with Triple-A Syracuse. Inglett is 10-for-33 at the plate with the Blue Jays this season and can play second, third or shortstop in addition to outfield.

Veteran pitcher Armando Benitez has been summoned to fill Accardo's spot.

Benitez, 35, signed a minor-league deal with the Jays in the off season after a disappointing 2007. Benitez has 289 saves in the majors over 14 seasons.
