Stumpy Marvel Hero Squad Rushing to TV, Games

Hmv78117elg_3While the adults are flocking to Iron Man now and looking ahead to The Incredible Hulk flick next month, Marvel is still worried that it might run out of money some day. So, it's reaching out to the kids and planning to spin its popular Marvel Squad line of figures into a game and TV show.

It's easy to envision a Marvel Squad character. Pick a favorite comic hero from Stan Lee's repertoire. Squish it. Give it freakishly big hands, squat feet and no moveable limbs. Make it smile, regardless of the character's good or evil intentions. Toss three or four in a colorful box, charge $10, and I'll write you a check -- because my Godson wants pretty much every one of them.

Now Marvel Animation is prepping 26 half-hour episodes of Marvel Super Hero Squad, a cartoon animated series for the under-10s. Wolverine, Thor and their squished little friends will all live in Super Hero City where they'll do humorous battle with cute lil' Doctor Doom, Magneto and the Abomination.

When the kids are done watching Marvel Squad cartoons, they can turn to the PS3 for Marvel Super Hero Squad video games. THQ will march out the first title in the new line next fall.

I'll send a check for that, too.
