Expert team launches plan to bring USA’s successful building material re-use centres to the UK

Sustainable construction experts BioRegional, and WasteWISE have just launched a tool-kit to help UK stakeholders replicate North America’s successful Building Material Reuse Centres (BMRCs). These will be innovative, often not-for-profit ventures that reduce building waste and costs whilst creating much needed construction training opportunities. The six month development of this UK specific tool-kit was funded by Defra’s Centre for Remanufacturing and Reuse and supported by reclamation specialists MASCo.

Sutton resident’s green idea reaps rewards

Cheam resident David Keeble scooped first prize in the “Sustainable Sutton” competition with his idea for making Sutton greener.

The competition is part of the borough-wide initiative to turn Sutton into the UK’s first zero-carbon, sustainable suburb. David Keeble’s winning idea is to “set a ‘Green space Challenge’ to encourage a one per cent increase in quality green space each year in Sutton.”

One Planet Products wins Green Oscar at City of London Corporation’s Sustainable City Awards


The winners of the “Green Oscars”, The City of London Corporation’s Sustainable City Awards were announced last week at London’s Mansion House. BioRegional's One Planet Products initiative won the Sustainable Procurement category, in recognition of exemplary work it has achieved in making it easier and more cost effective to use green construction products for the housing industry.

Sutton's Zero Carbon Suburb of the future


A trailblazing initiative to create the UK’s first zero-carbon sustainable suburb is to be launched in southwest London on Monday 25 February. Hackbridge in Sutton will be abuzz with ideas during a special week, 25th February to 1st March, as people who live and work in the area get together to design the zero carbon suburb of the future.

Last recycled office paper mill in UK to stop production

The UK's only paper mill that can recycle and manufacture high quality office paper has announced today that it will be relocating its paper production to France at the end of the year, to be replaced with a cardboard manufacturing plant. Paper accounts for 6% of the UK's environmental impact, which can be reduced by 93% if offices recycle to a local paper mill and then buy the paper back. BioRegional is calling for more government support to enable business to go green.
