Women and Men Equal Rights

Here you can find recent TUC material on sex equality, equal pay, rights and part timer's rights. You can find older material using the search facility. There is also material on women in the labour market in our employment research area. The TUC has an annual women's conference which elects a women's committee.

The TUC works closely with the Equal Opportunities Commission www.eoc.org.uk. Their site contains much further relevant information.

Same-Sex Parenting and the HFE Bill
The TUC is firmly opposed to any attempts to re-introduce the ‘the need for a father' when decisions regarding access to IVF are made and considers it to be discriminatory. The TUC welcomes the Government's suggested replacement of requiring evidence of “supportive parenting” within the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill which rightly places child welfare as the central consideration.

Unions in London urge support for a ‘Ring of Democracy' around City Hall
The TUC has called for Londoners to support the formation of a symbolic ‘Ring of Democracy' around City Hall. The event will be held at lunchtime, 28 April, and will express the participant's belief that it is vital to keep the far-right out of London's governance. (Assemble from 12.45pm, event at 1pm, concludes by 1.30pm).

Welcoming the House of Commons Trade and Industry Committee report published today (Thursday), ‘Jobs for the girls: The effect of occupational segregation on the gender pay gap', TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said: “This report should be a spur to action for the government and employers. Its findings back up the work of trade unions and the Women and Work Commission.
