The Pelham Alliance, an alliance of G...
The Pelham Alliance, an alliance of Greenville SC homeowners and residents, has created a first: A unique, comedy television commercial in the battle against Wal Mart's attempt to build one of their super centers in a high density residential and business area already over-burdened by traffic.
Created by Michael O'McCarthy, the National Picture Company, the commercial uses local stage star and satirist Susan Smith as Norma Jean of the Cafe and Then Some to warn residents of the danger of the establishment of the Super Center in their eco-sensitive neighborhood. The 30 second TV commercial stars Norma Jean holding her dead Tweety Bird which is killed by exhaust fumes where one Wal Mart has been established and her move to the targeted Pelham neighborhood with her new friend Polly the Parrot. It reveals the dangers of unplanned growth as allowed by the local government, the Greenville County Council, and suggests that it will get even worse if the BIG BOX enterprise is permitted to operate in that neighborhood.
