Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor is fun

The title to the following had me a little perplexed: “Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor is fun” I would certainly agree that it is immensely helpful, however I am failing to feel the joy?

If you are still anxious to know if your current PC configuration is good enough to run Windows Vista, Microsoft has a good tool for you.

The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor is a 4MB software for Windows XP that tells you if your PC hardware is fit enough for an an upgrade to Windows Vista.

When you run the Upgrade Advisor, it will scan your XP computer and generate a report of any known system and device compatibility issues. It also scans the hardware devices attached to your computer that do not have Windows Vista device drivers.

The Vista Advisor program will also recommend which version of Windows Vista to buy and provides suggestions about what, if any, hardware updates may be necessary to install and run the appropriate edition and features of Windows Vista…. Source and download links: Digital Inspiration

There is a newer version of VUA available. It now reports on Application compatibility as well.

You call VUA fun?
This is another piece of asinine M$ crap.
Scanning for hardware? My foot.
This thing was scanning every single folder on my harddrive.I started it,was called away, came back 30 minutes later and it was still not finished.
Admittedly I do have a lot of software on the drive.
Regardless this was ridiculous.By 40 minutes I killed
the blasted thing.
BTW,while scanning,I disconnected my modem from the net, since M$ is one of the biggest purveyors of spyware.
By contrast,Belarc Advisor took 2 minutes to tell me
about my hardware and any security settings (plus everything else.
Vista? no thanks!!!

What are your thoughts?
