SYNOPSIS: Kevin McElroy had a flourishing manufacturing business with up to 30 employees in East Texas. His son, Kyle, worked at the plant as a supervisor. On March 10, 2000, a woman called the office and demanded to talk to Kevin. The woman, who called herself Sara, told Kevin they had kidnapped Kyle. She told Kevin where to find his son's truck, and said that there would be instructions for him in the truck. She threatened to kill Kyle if police were contacted. After a pause Kevin heard his son's voice saying,"Daddy, do what they say, or they are going to kill me!" Kevin said it sounded like a recording. Kevin called the police, who followed him to his son's truck. There, they found the note, which read, "You have 7 hours to come up with $200,000. Do not call the police, or we will kill your son. We will call you later at the plant."

At 6:30 p.m., Sara called asking for the money. Kevin explained that he could only get half of it, and insisted on speaking to his son. She told him no and hung up. She called back and gave specific instructions on what he should do with the money. Kevin contacted the FBI, who then traced the next call to one of Kevin's employees, Victor Feredes, whose real name is Daniel Rios. Rios was then arrested, as were Ernesto Balion, and Alfredo Romero. Ernesto broke down and told the authorities where Kyle could be found. He claimed that Kyle was still alive. When the FBI finally located Kyle, he was dead -- bound in duct tape.

The FBI believes Kyle was forced to record the tape and was killed before the phone calls ever started. Rios, Balion and Romero are facing capital murder charges. Sara, who has been identified as Desiree Dawn Lingo-Perkins, has also been charged with capital murder, but has not yet been apprehended. The FBI believes she is involved in prostitution; she has also tested positive for Hepatitis C and takes medication for manic depression. Desiree is believed to be in the Houston area where she has relatives; she also has ties to Beaumont, Texas, Barling, Arkansas, and Connecticut. A $10,000-dollar reward is being offered for information leading to her arrest.
