STX/Inside Lacrosse Preseason Top 25 High School Poll
Loyola-Blakefield returns as the top-ranked team in the land heading into 2008, led by Steele Stanwick, the Virginia-bound attackman and senior class’s top-ranked recruit. West Genesee, who lost in last year’s New York Class A finals, comes in ranked second. The battle for second place in the MIAA is wide open Boys' Latin graduated a ton of talent and a number of unproven teams are chomping at the bit, but it seems like Gilman has the best chance to challenge Loyola. Among the top 10 are a number of schools whose graduated senior classes look like a who's who of big-name freshman around the NCAA DI ranks, but the traditional powers like West Genesee, Georgetown Prep and Delbarton have so much in the pipeline that it's tough to bet against them. Ranking John Jay ahead of NY Class B champs Jamesville-Dewitt may seem like a suspect choice given the result of their last meeting, but the consensus among experts on the New York scene is that another matchup won't yield the same result. Around the rest of the country, Brother Rice looks to have its strongest squad in a while and brings back the most talent outside of the traditional areas. St. Ignatius earned the respect of coaches up and down the West Coast last year in going undefeated, and play a schedule strong enough to validate their position by season's end. Saint Andrews had impressive results against BL and McDonogh last year, and though they lose a lot, their dominating performance in Florida last year makes them hard to bet against. |
