And the winner is .... Well, before we get to the Bangernomic bottom line of just who won my eccentric competition, for those of you who didn't read my feature on 11 May, let me recap. I decided to give away a perfectly good car with a full year's MOT, a brace of new tyres and a recent service . In these difficult, cash-poor times it seemed the right thing to do. All the entrants needed to do was make one of those new-fangled video things explaining just what Bangernomics is.

Tommy Sass is looking to buy a car for his business. Tommy's work requires him to drive from client to client. As he is a newcomer to the UK his budget is very limited at just £2,000. Tommy is on the tall side at 6ft 4in, so a super-mini would not be the answer.

David McNamara, 69, is starting to suffer from osteoarthritis. His physiotherapist says he needs a car with a driving seat that allows him to sit up straight, to ease the pressure on his hips and knees, and is higher off the ground, so it's easier to get in and out

Coby wants to buy a new car, specifically a practical coupé. He has a budget of £15,000. The car needs to be big enough to accommodate his six foot five inch frame, and his skis and the like. He keeps coming back to the BMW 3 series coupe, but Coby reckons it is devoid of any personality. So do we have any better ideas?

Yvonne Kiamtia is struggling to decide which roadster to buy. This will be her only car so it needs to be practical to get shopping and her spaniel on board. Her teenagers do not expect to be ferried around any more and Yvonne has access to larger cars when major items need to be shifted. She has just turned 40 and wants to treat herself and her spaniel, who loves the feeling of the wind flapping her ears. Yvonne, whose ears don't flap, has £13,500 to spend.

Paul Baker is 33, his wife runs a 53 plate Skoda Octavia Estate, 1.8 Turbo 4x4 variant that returns just under 30mpg. It does around 30 miles a day in school and playgroup runs. Paul commutes about 25 miles a day in his 1972 Land Rover Lightweight which does roughly 14mpg. They need to cut their motoring costs. Paul wants a car that will do 50mpg plus. His budget is £4,000.
