Britney Spears Stood Up By Prince William During the taping, Skinner asked Spears if she and the 19-year-old heir to the throne had become "quite friendly." She replied, "We exchanged emails for a little bit and he was supposed to come and see me somewhere but it didn't work out, so that was it--and then everyone was, like, 'Oh, she met him,' and nothing ever happened." (1/25/02, 3 p.m. ET) -- Pop singer Britney Spears says Britain's Prince William stood her up after she arranged a meeting with him by email. The pop singer made the revelation to comedian Frank Skinner during an interview for the U.K.'s The Frank Skinner Show.
Skinner then asked the 20-year-old pop queen: "You were blown out by Prince William?" She replied, "Yeah." Skinner also suggested that Spears should pursue William's younger brother, 17-year-old Prince Harry, because "he's much more fun". Prince Harry recently admitted to smoking marijuana and underage drinking. Skinner and Spears wrapped the interview with a duet of the Sonny & Cher hit, "I Got You Babe." For the record, Spears is currently dating *NSYNC singer Justin Timberlake. Spears's The Frank Skinner Show interview aired on Britain's ITV1 television on Saturday (January 26).
Spears was in the U.K. to promote her latest single, "Overprotected." During her overseas trip, Spears also held a press conference at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, France, on January 19. She was also on-hand for the NRJ Music Awards ceremony, which took place during the MIDEM 2002 international music-industry conference in Cannes. Spears returned to the U.S. for a hour-long interview with talk show hostess Oprah Winfrey will that air February 4 on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
