Notice is hereby given to the voters of the City of Yellowknife that an election for Mayor, Councillors, Trustees for Yellowknife Education District No. 1, and Trustees for Yellowknife Catholic Schools is proposed to be held on Monday, October 16, 2006. Polls will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Public Notice
Information contained in materials written by the Yellowknife Public Denominational District Education Authority known as the Yellowknife Catholic School Board for the upcoming election of school trustees is incorrect and therefore may mislead the electorate as to the eligibility of candidates and the voters’ right to select a candidate of choice.
Specifically there is no requirement that eligible candidates for the Yellowknife Public Denominational District Education Authority must be of the Catholic faith. This is not a requirement in either the Education Act or the Local Authorities Elections Act.
Such information could cause otherwise eligible persons not to consider running as a trustee, and cause the education electorate to think their votes should only be given to persons of the Catholic faith.
In order for the education district election to be compliant with legislation and to provide time for the revised information to be understood by the electorate, the Nomination Period for the Yellowknife Catholic School Board has been extended one week to end 3:00 p.m., September 18, 2006.
