Accreditation

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN WASHINGTON IS NOT ACCREDITED BY A RECOGNIZED ACCREDITING AGENCY OR ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZED BY THE UNITED STATES COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION.

Note: In the United States, many licensing authorities require accredited degree as the basis for eligibility for licensing. In some cases, accredited colleges may not accept for transfer courses and degrees completed at unaccredited colleges and some employers may require an accredited degree as a basis for eligibility for employment.

However, the University of Northern Washington is accredited by the American Association of Private Post-Secondary Education, and our Business Administration and Information Systems programs have been critiqued, approved and accredited by the Institute of Financial Consultants and by the Institute of Computer and Professional Consultants, respectively. Degrees granted by the University of Northern Washington are fully legal and authentic. All University of Northern Washington degrees are attested and sealed for authenticity by a government appointed notary.

According to Philip Forte,

Accreditation is sometimes mistaken for governmental certification, but it is not an official designation. Accreditation is essentially recognized by the Federal Government as a mechanism for the authorization to distribute government educational funds…Degrees granted or issued in conformance with cited statutes…are all equally legal under the law. Judgments of value and applicability of a certain degree are not made by the law or by the State. The appropriateness of a degree or the applicability of a degree to a job or the transfer of education credit is decided by those who must render such evaluations for those specific purposes.
