I don't care how much was paid to the designers and developers of this new look. I hate it. It's awful.
It's slow. It's unintuitive. It's ugly. It's BUGGY.
Seriously. This new design it terrible. I'm a web programmer. I'm used to clients and users freaking out about changes. There will always be people who simply don't like change and will complain.
This is not one of those complaints.

I suggest you do like Yahoo mail - give uisers the option of using the classic/legacy/whatever-you-want-to-call-it GUI.
You may be thinking - oh they'll get used to it and stop complaining - but really you're just pissing people off.

I also had to sign up to voice my opinion...I hope your programmers read some of these emails.
Its amazing how you could even let a site this poorly constructed replace your old format.
Its an experience in frustration. What a mess.

I also do not care for the new layout at all. I am a longtime user, first time poster. The new layout lacks the simplicity of the old version. It isn't nearly as intuitive and easy to use. IMHO the redesign was a total waste of resources.

This new format sucks. There is no aparent improvement at all...you've only taken some serious steps backwards. I am mystefied. Are you looking to lose traffic? It certainly seems like it. Nobody will judge you if you just post something saying "Sorry, we screwed up. We're reverting back to the original format." Tell your programmers to swallow their pride and don't try to fix that which is not broken. Where's the suggested movies? I have found some really good flicks with that feature. This is rediculous.

You broke the number one rule with a software product:
YOU DO NOT FIX WHAT AIN'T BROKEN
This is the NEW COKE of web apps. Your users hate it. You just opened the door for the competition in a massive way.
Where the FOOEY is the movie name search with ratings. That feature IS RottenTomatoes.
Overall, I hope you guys go home without pay for ruining a totally good thing.
And P.S. As a web developer I would NEVER EFF over my loyal customers like you clowns did.

Totally agree.
Ok guys, whodunit?
I signed up for an account just to post here. New design sucks! That's not constructive though so here's a suggestion: put the new site on beta subdomain (beta.rottentomatoes.com) and GIVE US BACK THE GOOD OLD RT. Please?
I am not a change resisting luddite. I am just a confused little boy... or girl.. Crap, I'm so confused by the site I don't even know anymore.

Okay I'm going to say it for about the fourth time on this forum (which I signed up to only to say this):
RT: Be smart like Yahoo was with their mail revamp.
Make it OPTIONAL.
You're running out of time.

I too just signed up for the express purpose of saying how bad the redesign is. First Variety's boxoffice charts and now RT. Did the designer even ask how people use this site, or why? It has gone from brilliant to almost useless. PLEASE change it back or make it better. Roger Ebert is watching;>

Like all others in this thread, I have joined for the specific reason of communicating my astonishment at the downgrade in usability.
But, really, here's the thing: It doesn't matter now, what is done is done, just undo it. Really. You are going to lose money this way. New subscribers will hack and slash their way through for a while, but will become frustrated and leave. Old patrons will check back periodically to see if you have straightened it out.
Every business makes mistakes. the ones that react aggressively survive and prosper. It is not as though the pro critics are the reason folks come here...Most of them are far, far removed from the concerns and interests of real people and the dramatic disparity between their ratings and those of moviegoers reflects this.
However, RT WAS an easy way of gathering fast information and concensuses. Now it is not. Try looking up the name of a film. I saw that this old Hackman movie was advertised on the tube. I wanted to know how it had been recieved back then. I typed 'Target' in the search box and it didn't make page one even though it is the only movie by that name. EVER.
Ouch.

I have started using IMDB to find links to reviews instead of RT now, entirely because of the new design; it simply doesn't work.
Can we atleast have an option to leave the beta version and revert to the old layout?
If that happens, I'll come straight back.
I'm sure something will change eventually, but MAN, I really can't stand to use the site as it is...
horrible, horrible, ugly, blotchy, broken, bleargh... bleargh.. Hate it.

Gentle Webmaster: Upon returning home from a two week vacation, I blithely turned on my computer, and after taking care of some business, made my way to Rotten Tomatoes. Initially, I thought that the site had been hijacked by terrorists or perhaps possessed by a demonic entity. Worse yet, maybe the one of the Fab Five had gotten to it after way too many Martinis and copious servings of canapés-a-cannabis.
Then I remembered that I had fallen asleep on the plane ride home, and I wondered if maybe I had been abducted by alien scientists and placed in parallel environment similar to, but not exactly like my own, a la the “Twilight Zone.” After raiding the liquor cabinet and taking a half-hour phone call from my mother, I knew without a doubt that I was, for better or for worse, squarely right smack back in the real world.
So, I cautiously approached the computer again, carefully opened the browser, and timidly clicked on the Rotten Tomatoes bookmark, praying all the while that the website would restore itself to its former sanity. Alas, it would not. Quelle horrible! I tried to negotiate the new format, but it was maddening. I moved the cursor apoplectically from one area of the screen to another, frantically searching for a button like a one-armed seamstress in a sweatshop.
After awhile, I was so wearied that I made my way to the Forums, signed up and decided to leave this heartfelt assessment: “Dear Rotten Tomatoes, et al:YOUR NEW FORMAT SUCKS!” I’ve been using this site since its inception, and while there have been a few redesigns and tweaks over the years, what in the world were your Web Designers smoking/snorting/shooting up when they devised this mess? Unfortunately, Rotten Tomatoes is finally, well, “rotten.”

Really awful. This is the only site I check for movies, however, unless the design is changed to a useable format, I will discontinue using. I'm very very surprised and disappointed at what has happened; the website was so easy to use before. Inexplicable.

Believe it or not, we have been collecting all kinds of feedback from users and implementing changes and fixes as quickly as we can. On a personal note, I'm a little surprised and taken aback, as I've had no problems finding the same info I was able to find before...

Used to be you'd search RT and get a clean list of films and reviews. Now I have to scroll a screen to see the results. Rotten Tomatoes has become the equivalent of MSNBC - cluttered, corporate, slick and soulless. You took something that worked well and obfuscated it with ads and links to sellers. I'm going to Metacritic, with regret.

I too have signed up just to express my dismay at the "new" RT. I used to love this site, but it seems that RT have decided to "dumb down" in favour of a more social-network orientated look.
People come here for in-depth, up-front, detailed information on movies - where's the left info bar, the related / recommended movies section, all the detail that made this site great?
Was there any usablity testing on this site before they changed this site - did RT think about their core-audience?

Well... here it is. The post I was looking for. Surely, I thought, I can't be the only one that thinks this web site 'upgrade' is the worst possible downgrade I have yet to experience. IGN... hang your head in shame! This is an abomination! I really can't even begin to itemize all the problems with this revamp. The absolute worst though is how unbelievably slow it is. Disconnects, gateway issues, unresolved searches all contribute to a site that is unworkable and frankly so frustrating to use that I have NO intention of continuing to do so.
Competition... Here is a call out to you. Now is your chance to push Rotten Tomatoes (truely now an apropo title, me things) aside.
