Who's next for Chelsea?

Premier League Chelsea
comment on the article

After just eight months in charge, Avram Grant has been given the boot by Chelsea.

Grant reached a Carling Cup and Champions League final and also came second in the Premier League to Manchester United, but in the end that wasn't good enough to save his job at Stamford Bridge.

Support for Grant always seemed to be divided, even from day one, and despite guiding the club to their first European Cup final fans were still unsure whether the Israeli was the right choice.

So who next for Chelsea?

Dutchman Guus Hiddink
is the bookies favourite. The Russia coach is yet to agree a new contract and could be available after Euro 2008.

Roberto Mancini is not far behind. Mancini is expected to leave Inter Milan this summer after guiding the club to three successive Serie A titles.

Frank Rijkaard is out of work having parted company with Barcelona. Rijkaard knows what it takes to win the Champions League and could also change Chelsea's style of play, which would be popular with owner Roman Abramovich.

Dane Michael Laudrup is also available having resigned from his post at Spanish club Getafe in May after taking them to the Spanish Cup final and the Uefa Cup quarter-finals.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly had several 'cosy chats' with his former employer Mr Abramovich and would be a popular choice to succeed Grant.

Sven Goran Eriksson is expected to leave Manchester City this summer and has experience of both national and domestic football in England. While he was England manager he held talks with Chelsea.

Brazilian Luis Felipe Scolari is set to step down as Portugal coach after Euro 2008. He turned down the chance to coach England before Steve Mclaren was appointed and has also been linked with Manchester City more recently.

Dutchman Dick Advocaat has done wonders at current club FC Zenit Saint Petersburg and has experience of British football having coached Rangers for nearly four years.

Italian Gianfranco Zola may also be a popular choice among the Chelsea fans and is currently working with the Italian under-21 team.

Who off that list would you like to see as Chelsea manager? Any others worthy of a mention? How about former Stamford Bridge pair Mark Hughes and Didier Deschamps?

Pleast stop boring us with Chelsea's financials! Let's look at the much more interesting topic at hand, which is who should take the helm...

Assuming Hiddink is out of the picture, there is only one choice, and that is Rijkaard. At least with him you will play beautiful football and thereby build your supporter base while challenging for honours.

How anyone else can be considered is beyond me.

And, as a bonus, maybe Rijkaard could lure Messi away...

No Mate - You Bored us.

You got stuck on elements of my question that were not relavent - I stated up to around £1billion on speculated figures
lets say it is not £1billion, but £900million - its still a massive amount of money that is owed to Abramovich

The question was to do with - what would happen if he walked due to lack of winning trophies?

About 5 or 6 people from different clubs have pointed that out, but still you have to go and print the exact figures that no one cares about.

The thing is you truley think you have got one over on me by ripping apart some speculative figures, do you know what speculative means?

If you got knocked over by a car at quarter to 12, would it make any difference if it was actually 11.44 - No, you are still knocked over.

You have no idea if the debt would be cancelled, you stated earlier that he is a good business man, well why would he walk away from so much money (I dont have the exact figures, but hey, knock yourself out man)?

Im going to bed.

You bored "us"? Who are us, I'm pretty sure what happened is you made a statement I said it was rubbish and coulnd't be bothered proving it. You then annoyed me, so I felt the need to prove what you are saying is nonsense.

As I said already £578m is owed to Abramovich not near to £1 billion. First lot of nonsense from your last post.

As I said in my previous post, if Abramovich "walked away" as you put it, he would have to sell the club. Someone else would then take on the debt. Abramovich clearly isn't looking to make a profit out of Chelsea though and so I said he would likely write off the debt.

I gave you the exact figures, still you don't take them into account.

Go to your bed, because you know your wrong. Spouted absolute nonsense. I'm not even a Chelsea fan yet I could tell from your first post you don't have a clue.

And yes it would make a difference, if I got knocked over at 11.44, and it was actually 11.45. It would make a difference, if I was still knocked over and after a minute no one had called an ambulance I would be in more trouble. If I was knocked over and a minute later still in the same state, it would be likely the driver hadn't stopped to phone anyone check if I was alright, put me into the recovery position. And if he hadn't stopped then it is likely he is drunk or old and didn't notice they knocked me over as they were probably going to fast to notice, increasing the likelyhood of me dieing.

does it truly matter who succeeds grant at stamford bridge? next summer they will probably be sacked if they do not claim any trophies. Chelsea are becoming the english version of real madrid.

Pinocchio would be an ideal choice to succeed Grant. After all, Abramovich only wants a puppet in the manager's seat, and he could work the strings from the directors box above.

I love the farcical idea that a manager comes in and can suddenly make chelsea play beautiful football.

Never in a million years unless you strip out the hackers, smack-it-and-see-ers and the barge-em-and-fall-overs out of this squad.

ie. apart from cech, all of 'em.

Thanks Manufan87!

It just seemed right that he wanted someone (thing) that he could control. Maybe a robot of some sort. Grant looked waaaay too much like R2D2 for it to be a coincidence. But his voice was too deep though.... there goes another theory.
