Sandwich is about 60 miles from London.
There is no really direct route to Sandwich unless you are travelling via London, or along the South Coast.

Travel to Sandwich by Road, 'Bus, Rail or Air:

By Road:

From Central London – about 75miles:
Either M20 or M2 – To avoid Dover use M2 at the end continue to the Kent Coast by the A299 dual carriageway through to Kent International Airport at Manston. Past the Airport - At the double roundabout take the A256 – Sandwich is then just over 3 miles.

By Bus:

There is a National Express Coach to Canterbury from Victoria Coach Station, London (You usually have to book a seat) Phone: 08705 808080. The 'buses from Canterbury to Sandwich run regularly (you do not have to book).Timetable information is available from Stagecoach East Kent Buses (08702 433711).

By Rail:

There is a train from Charing Cross station in Central London that goes to Sandwich every hour. The journey can take approximately 2 hours as there are quite a few stations on the way. Also please note, that after arriving at Ashford, the train travels to Folkestone, Dover and Deal and other stations before arriving at Sandwich, but you do not have to change trains.

International Air Travel:

Kent's closest international airport is Gatwick where you can hire a car on arrival, then take the M25 and M20 or M2 to be in the heart of the county in just 45 minutes. Heathrow and Stansted also offer easy access to Kent via the M25 and M11 motorways. Alternatively, you can catch the frequent Gatwick Express train direct to London's Victoria Station (30 minutes).

Gatwick 79 miles

Follow the exit signs and join the M23. Leave the M23 at Junction 8 for the M25. On the M25, exit on Junction 5 with M26. From the M26 take the M20. Leave at Junction 7 and take the A249 for about 6 miles. Join the M2. Leave the M2 at Junction 7 and take the A2. After about 5 miles, take the A2050 for Canterbury. Follow signs for A257 for Sandwich, at the roundabout junction with A256, take the 2nd exit for Sandwich.

Heathrow 105 miles

Follow the exit signs to the M4. Exit at Junction 4b for the M25. On the M25, exit on Junction 5 with M26. From the M26 take the M20. Leave at Junction 7 and take the A249 for about 6 miles. Join the M2. Leave the M2 at Junction 7 and take the A2. After about 5 miles, take the A2050 for Canterbury. Follow signs for A257 for Sandwich, at the roundabout junction with A256, take the 2nd exit for Sandwich.Top of Page
