PARIS (Thomson Financial) - British Airways has placed a firm order for two A318 aircraft with EADS NV's Airbus unit.
The airline will use the aircraft to launch services between London City Airport and New York.
A318s cost $55.6 million according to Airbus current list prices.
The aircraft is the largest certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for the steep approaches needed to operate from London City Airport.
The order means Airbus now has 13 customers for the A318, the smallest member of the A320 family.
