Matt & Kim, Death Set, Black Ghosts Do Colt 45 Tours

For the second summer in a row, the party experts at Vice have assembled a series of tours in collaboration with malt liquor Colt 45 under the name "Tales of Colt 45". These free, RSVP-only shows will visit most of the same venues in L.A., Chicago, Atlanta, Philly, and NYC each month from May through August, creating residencies of sorts at each location.

Each month of the tour will feature a different lineup of artists. Thunderheist and ex-Simian singer Simon Lord's new project the Black Ghosts will take the mantle in May, followed by Drop the Lime aka Curses! in June, and a Matt & Kim/the Death Set double bill in July. The August lineup has yet to be announced.

Only the May and July "Tales of Colt 45" dates are available at this time, and you can view them after the jump along with a fair number of other dates from the Black Ghosts, the Death Set, and Matt & Kim. [MORE...]

Modest Mouse Add Dates to Tour

Details of the EP Modest Mouse have reportedly been working on with help from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band? Nope. How about tour dates featuring the latter opening for the former? Coming right up-- right around the time Modest Mouse finish their tour with R.E.M. and the National in mid-June.

Also lacking further details: that reworking of Lee Hazlewood's Trouble Is a Lonesome Town featuring Isaac Brock, Frank Black, and Larry Norman, due to be released later this year.

Brock also appears in the Flaming Lips' movie Christmas on Mars, which finally, FINALLY, debuts at the Sasquatch Festival on May 25. Check out an outtake from the film featuring Brock and actor Adam Goldberg here:

Brendan Canning's BSS Presents LP Details Revealed

It's a family affair yet again for the next installment of the Broken Social Scene Presents series, this time featuring Scene co-founder Brendan Canning at the helm. Something for All of Us... is Canning's entry into the series, and it's due July 22 (not May 27 as previously reported) in North America from Arts&Crafts.

Produced by Canning in Toronto with Ryan Kondrat and John LaMagna, the set is rife with the sort of folks you'd expect on such an affair. Scene regulars Kevin Drew (who led the first installment of the BSS Presents series), Justin Peroff, Andrew Whiteman, and Ohad Benchetrit all make appearances, as do friends like Stars' Amy Millan, Metric's James Shaw, Jason Collett, the Stills' Liam O'Neil, and Land of Talk's Liz Powell. Canning and frequent BSS/Apostle of Hustle contributor Lisa Lobsinger duet on a tune called "Antique Bull".

The whole Scene, including Amy Millan, will hit the road later this week for the first of quite a few of those European tour dates we mentioned a while back. Expect to hear tunes from the whole BSS catalog as well as a few new tunes from the Canning LP. And, in keeping with the album's title, there are North American festival appearances aplenty to come later in the summer. [MORE...]

Sybris Link With Absolutely Kosher for New LP, Tour

Chicago quartet Sybris will serve up their latest platter of good old-fashioned indie rock on June 3 with the release of Into the Trees. The record, Sybris' second full-length, is the follow-up to their 2005 self-titled debut. It's also their first for their new label, Absolutely Kosher.

Following a hometown record release show on May 9, Sybris kick off a U.S. tour with Unwed Sailor May 23 in Lawrence, Kansas. That jaunt wraps in late June, giving Sybris a solid three months to prepare for their Austin City Limits Festival appearance. [MORE...]

Cluster, Copeland, Higgs, Whitman Play Full House Fest

Okay, so it's not the John Stamos fan fic convention of your dreams, but the first ever Full House Festival may well trump even this.

The day-long Full House gathers recently reactivated krautrock icons Cluster, Black Dice's Eric Copeland, Lungfish's Daniel A.I.U. Higgs, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Tickley Feather, Blues Control, Axolotl, and more at Baltimore's Floristree on Sunday, May 18. Why Dan Deacon isn't on this bill doing a tribute to, like, Ranger Joe, I'll never know; whatever happened to predictability, anyhow?

Britt Daniel left the Spoon in the dishwasher over the weekend and strolled over to Solana Beach, California's Belly Up Tavern to play a previously reported gig with his bare hands.

No worries though, as Britt certainly hasn't ditched his Spoon for good. The guy will reconvene with his trusty utensil of choice for a smattering of late spring and summer shows, including one involving a certain 'fork. It's like a match made in silverware heaven! Or something.

Tom Waits Reveals "Glitter and Doom" Tour

The wait for Tom Waits dates is over (zing!) As previously reported, the hard-to-hate Waits promised a spate of the things in the U.S. and Europe just as the season to mate comes to an end. Hey, that's great!

And now Tom has delivered, revealing a 13-date North American trek, with European shows in the works. It's all supporting, er, Scarlett Johansson's soon-to-arrive record of Tom Waits covers? I guess?

The big announcement was made via a humorous YouTube "press conference" posted this morning. Hey, if this whole music thing doesn't work out, Tom can always fall back on a stand up comedy career.

The "Glitter and Doom" tour, as Mr. Waits has characteristically christened it, kicks off June 17 in Phoenix, and lord almighty do we hope it includes some Mariah Carey and black metal covers. Bring a date and don't be late! [MORE...]

Photos by Will Marsh

The Arcade Fire and Superchunk kept the car running after Thursday's big Barack Obama rally in Greensboro, North Carolina and rolled right into nearby Carrboro's Town Commons yesterday afternoon for round two. The state's Obama faithful, who'll cast their votes in the NC Democratic primary on May 6, were treated to yet another rousing Arcade Fire cover of David Bowie's "Heroes", all manner of on- and off-stage acrobatics, and even a cameo from some adorable youngsters during Superchunk's set. "This is the future of America!" the band proclaimed. It's a shame they can't vote.

The Cool Kids' Bake Sale EP, Here at Last
Album title: When Fish Ride Bicycles

We've anticipated the release of the Cool Kids' debut EP, The Bake Sale, for some time, but now that they have the backing of new label Chocolate Industries, Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks are ready to make good on its arrival.

The 10-track EP is scheduled to hit iTunes on May 20, followed by a June 10 release to brick-and-mortar stores and other digital retailers. A new mixtape, That's Stupid, will precede The Bake Sale with a release via the Cool Kids' new website in the next week.

Additionally, the Kids have announced the title of another new release for us to anticipate. It's their full-length debut, and it's called When Fish Ride Bicycles. (Does this mean the Cool Kids are professing their support for the feminist movement? -- Ed)

In the midst of revealing release info, the Cool Kids still found time to firm up some tour dates. May is full of U.S. dates for the duo, including a performance in cooperation with the touring Darfur Now documentary. Summer brings European shows (with even more to be announced!), their Lollapalooza set, and their inclusion on the traveling Rock the Bells festival bill. [MORE...]

Holopaw, Boyracer, Brittle Stars Play Pop Mayhem!

Indie pop lovers of the world, it's time to get all giddy again. Gainesville Pop Mayhem! takes over the titular Florida city from May 7-10 (the poster says it begins May 8, but we swear there's a show on May 7 too), invading several local venues and stuffing them with the sweet, sweet sounds of twee, cuddlecore, dream pop, and the like.

Scheduled performers include onetime Sub Pop act Holopaw, Australian mainstays the Cannanes, and post-punkers Human Television, plus the first live outing from the mighty Boyracer in way too long. The icing on this cake, however, is a one-off, ten year anniversary reunion performance from exquisitely melancholy melody-makers Brittle Stars, whose singer will be flown in all the way from Israel for the gig.

These delights will be supplemented by sets from Orange Twin act Nana Grizol, Mahogany pals Brasilia, too-cute coupling Citra Super, and-- well, you can read the adorable poster up there, or you can swing on over to the Pop Mayhem! website for the full scoop.

A Hawk & A Hacksaw Tour With Hun Hangar Ensemble

As an unexpected addendum to last year's A Hawk and a Hacksaw and the Hun Hangár Ensemble EP, A Hawk and a Hacksaw have divulged the details of their first North American tour in years. Fittingly, the duo of Heather Trost and former Neutral Milk Hotel drummer Jeremy Barnes will arrive on our shores supplemented by members of the aforementioned Hun Hangár Ensemble from Budapest, Hungary.

When they get here, one of A Hawk and a Hacksaw's stops is at the Pitchfork Music Festival. Before they arrive, however, they have a bunch of European shows to play this month. [MORE...]
