City pastor held over defilement

ZURAH NAKABUGO

 KAMPALA

POLICE  have arrested Pastor Grace Kabuye of 'My people Christian Centre Church' for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl. The suspect's church is located in Nkere zone, Katwe, near Kampala.

According to police, Pastor Kabuye, 32, allegedly defiled the under-age girl he has been caring for as an abandoned child. Kampala Extra Police Spokesman Simeo Nsubuga said Mr Kabuye is the head teacher of Dwelling Places of Mutundwe. The girl was studying at the school.

Mr Kabuye was on Friday paraded before journalists at the Central Police Station in Kampala. "One of the teachers at the schools reported to police that Kabuye defiled the pupil, and went into hiding," Mr Nsubuga said.

Police arrested Mr Kabuye on January 23. Mr Nsubuga said the accused will be prosecuted for defilement. It is alleged that at least 300 believers have so far come up to accuse born-again pastors of various crimes including extortion, sex slavery, fraud and manipulation.

The growing list of the victims is being compiled by Pastor Solomon Male of Arising for Christ, an umbrella organisation of pastors and preachers who want to restore "the sanctity of Christ and to rid the Church of fake and selfish people who carry themselves as pastors to con the desperate and unsuspecting public."
