Welcome to the 'Friends of M30272M TPO Group' website

Graphic of Lineside Standards with pouches waiting to be collectedThe 'Friends of M30272M TPO Group' are a part of the Nene Valley Railway that is dedicated to the restoration and operation of Travelling Post Office coach M30272M, the only surviving coach from the Great Train Robbery of 1963, plus other vehicles that assist in educating the public about the operation of the TPO and also to the display of material relating to the TPO system.

It is now over 30 years since the last lineside apparatus exchange took place on the British Railways network at Penrith, since this date in October 1971 there have only been three locations in Great Britain that have been able to operate the exchange. The Great Western Society at Didcot was the first in 1975, followed by the Great Central Railway in 1982 and most recently the Nene Valley Railway in September 2000.

The Friends of M30272M TPO Group are determined that such a historical aspect of the railway's history is not lost, as such they are restoring a TPO from 1949. Please use the links to the left of the screen to navigate the site and learn about the activities of the group and others in the aims of explaining the important role that these vehicles played in keeping the country communicating.
