Birmingham's main Museum and Art Gallery was opened in 1885. Its collections cover fine and applied arts, archaelogy and ethnography, natural and social history. It also houses the largest collection of Pre-Raphaelite works in the world, as well as Old Masters and Impressionists.

Ikon Gallery is a contemporary art venue situated in Brindleyplace. Situated in the neo-gothic Oozells Street School building, the venue provides over 440 square metres of exhibition space. Ikon shows a continuous programme of changing exhibitions on two floors.

Birmingham Conservatoire

One of Britain's leading music colleges, the Birmingham Conservatoire is a leading music provider for the City of Birmingham and the West Midlands, and hosts over 300 concerts every year. The Conservatoire is primarily involved in preparing students for the music profession, and is a faculty of the University of Central England.

Britain's premier touring ballet company, the Birmingham Royal Ballet (formerly Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet) relocated in August 1990 to purpose-built premises at the Birmingham Hippodrome.

Birmingham Royal Ballet performs regularly throughout the year at the Hippodrome, has an annual season in London and tours extensively in the UK and overseas.

The Custard Factory, Birmingham's arts and media quarter, is home to a dynamic community of 500 artists and small creative enterprises.

The studio workshops are complemented by a theatre caf�, antique shops, meeting rooms, dance studios, art galleries, the Medicine Bar and Code nightclub.

Symphony Hall is widely recognised as one of the great concert halls in the world. The hall's resident orchestra, the CBSO, gives approximately 60 concerts a year, alongside the hall's own major series of prestigious international concerts, the very best in rock and popular music of all kinds and the work of local musicians and young people.
