Link construction activities - Southcenter Blvd/42nd Ave S (Link Light Rail Project) 05/22/08  [PDF

Updated 05/21/2008: The closure of 42nd Avenue South has been extended another week through 05/30/08.

42nd Avenue South at Southcenter Blvd (1,000 feet south on 42nd) is closed to northbound and southbound traffic through Friday May 30, 2008. Sound Transit’s contractor will be installing power lines underground.

A detour route will send traffic west to International Blvd/SR 99, south to 160th Avenue South and back to 42nd Avenue South. All police, fire and medical units, school buses and Postal carriers have access through the closure. Please note that flaggers will be present.

Safety Alert - Railroad Tracks are no Place for Pedestrians (Sounder Commuter Rail Project) 05/17/08  [PDF

Safety bulletin: In the past several weeks, two fatalities involving trains operated by other entities have occurred on BNSF Railway Co. tracks in south King County. Both deaths involved pedestrians reportedly crossing the tracks in undesignated areas while talking on cell phones. Freight and passenger trains, including Sounder, are much quieter than most people realize. You may not hear a train coming. Please review the update and stay safe & sound.

Kirkland Transit Center Enhancement Project -- Environmental Documentation Complete (ST Express Bus Project) 05/09/08  [HTML

Sound Transit has completed the environmental review and documentation process under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) for the Kirkland Transit Center project.  A SEPA Checklist and SEPA Addendum were prepared and a detailed noise study was conducted.  Sound Transit issued a Determination of Nonsignificance (DNS) under SEPA on May 12, 2008.  The SEPA documents and noise study are available for review. Rainier Valley Construction Update (Link Light Rail Project) 05/09/08  [HTML

Starting as early as Monday, May 19th for approximately three weeks -- S. Walden Street will be closed 24-hours a day to eastbound and westbound traffic to allow RCI-Herzog to replace concrete and install trackway. 

Train testing safety bulletin - Overhead electrical lines (Link Light Rail Project) 04/26/08  [PDF

Safety bulletin: as Link prepares for testing the new light rail trains, the overhead electrical lines that power the trains are being suspended above the tracks in the center of Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. Consider these wires energized or “hot” at all times. Any contact with the overhead power lines can cause serious injury or death. If you see a downed power line, call 9-1-1, stay away, consider it hot and dangerous.

Beacon Hill Temporary Street Closure (Link Light Rail Project) 04/07/08  [PDF

As early as April 7, 2008 Sound Transit's contractor Obayashi Corporation will temporarily close S. Winthrop Street/Cheasty Blvd. S at 27th Avenue, near the Mount Baker Station to install a new storm drain. Click on the update for details and detour information.

Environmental review and planning is underway for the proposed East Link project, which would expand light rail from downtown Seattle to the Eastside with new stations serving Mercer Island, south Bellevue, downtown Bellevue, Bel-Red/Overlake and Redmond. University Link Project Update (Link Light Rail Project) 03/10/08  [PDF

Sound Transit formally transmitted its application for a full funding grant agreement (FFGA) for University Link to the Federal Transit Administration on January 31, 2008. The FFGA opens the door for $750 million dollars of federal funding toward completion of University Link.
