Better luck next time. The James Beard Foundation awards, or the “culinary Oscars,” were announced Sunday night, and although Minnesota chefs dominated in nominations for the best Midwest chef category, no cigar.

Tim McKee (La Belle Vie, Minneapolis), Alex Roberts (Restaurant Alma, Minneapolis) and first-time nominee Isaac Becker (112 Eatery, Minneapolis) were competing against Colby Garrelts (Bluestem, Kansas City, Mo.) and Adam Siegel (Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro, Milwaukee), who took the top honor. — Nancy Ngo
